Vancouver led the league in points at Christmas, Can they continue this run into the New Year?

There's a complex Canucks fans have. We basically have little brother syndrome and always want to be heard, talked about, recognized. We have no discernible accomplishments thus far and feel insecure about our place in the hockey world.
Here's a Canucks fan trying to make friends around the league still. Cute.

I honestly expected some reserved intrigue about the Canucks. You know.. Hughs and Petterson have grown up, the Tocchet effect. Stuff like that. Just like any team that starts off hot in the last few seasons. But the team was instantly shouted down as frauds. Then almost instantly, this PDO bs came out of nowhere to prove that they were frauds. And the only question was when the collapse would come. The eastern media snarked about the Sharks games for weeks. We weren't even worth considering a good team because we beat the Sharks twice.

Just tell me what strong regular season team ever got a reaction quite like this. I'll wait. And how are we supposed to react ?

I'll say right now, Winnipeg hasn't got the attention it deserves. Neither did Kyle Connor when he was leading the league in points. But the vitriol doesn't seem to be there for the Jets.

Its like the league has a Canucks derangement issue more than anything else.

Congrats. we are used to making the playoffs. It will be a piece of cake. Like I said, enjoy this rare playoff season. It's a fun time making it.
so, this whole high danger chances thing.. vancouver is 22nd with 367 allowed at 5on5
rangers are 19th with 362 - 5 difference

shesterkin is 36th out of 60 in high danger save percentage with goalies playing minimum 500 minutes

why are the rangers only 1 point difference to vancouver?

It was just a joke.

We are a legit team this year and we are definitely getting downplayed.

If I'm trying to make friends you're certainly doing a good job making enemies.

Oilers fans have a complex too. They are the classic peaked in high school kid. Always talking about the past, trying to knock others down and bully them. Now they are working at 7/11 still trying to talk about the glory years of 15 yrs old and how tough they used to be.
Trying to find where you're wrong.

But I can't.

Some people take this site and fandom too f***ing seriously.
Glad we have people like you, me and @Bounces R Way to unite the 3 clans.

I mean.. I think you nailed it.

We may be the worst two fan bases on HF to start 2024!

I want that playoff matchup! HF would need a new server.lol

The Oilers current success comes on the back of being very bad for a decade. If any fanbase could relate to Vancouver in 2024 you’d think it would be Oilers fans old enough to remember way way back to 2020 when their team was in a similar place.
1 decade my ass... More like 2! Take out that 2006 Finals run and it's a lot of emptyness.haha

That's a tall ask my dude , would settle for adding a little levity.

Canucks are a solid club. As much shit as Benning got, and I was right there giving it to him too because he was clearly an idiot with a lot of his moves, at least he left the club with a 1C, 1D, and 1G as well as some guys like Miller and Boeser that can contribute consistently. When you have those pieces in place it's a lot easier for the next management to come in and fill out the rest of the lineup competently.

Treliving in his 9 years or whatever it was wasn't able to do that for the Flames.

Part of Winnipeg not getting the attention is that the hockey is defensive, it's the smallest market, and the only Canadian team in the Central. VAN/EDM/CGY are all divisional rivals and so are TOR/OTT/MTL.

yeah, it seems thats the beef you guys have with the canucks.

Thanks for the good vibes, riding it to the finals.
I honestly have no feelings towards Vancouver one way or the other. But stats are stats. It’s extremely unlikely to continue

It may not matter at this point, the stuff that people point to as sustainable indicators of talent is also trending up.

Is it unlikely that 5 or so players will continue shooting at this percent an entire year? Probably.

But team wide the Canucks S% is only marginally higher then the last 6 teams to lead in the category. All those teams had a full year of stats. In 2021-22 St Louis ended the year with a team wide 7.22 S%, higher then Vancouver's current 6.91.

St Louis also ended that year with 3 shooters over 21%, 1 at 17.4% and 5 more hovering around 15%.

But Vancouver's shooting percentage is unprecedented 🤣

Marginally higher… so it’ll likely _______ to the mean

Fill in the blank for us.

All within .2 - .3 percentage difference. All full season samples.

So not at all statistically out of the ordinary. Actually seems to follow the same pattern for almost a decade.

It is a solid club. Relevant for the first time in a decade.

What’s the asking price for Elias Lindholm?

I’d be curious to bring Tanny back but I like the D.

For the Canucks we make a very special price:
1st + Brzustewicz + 4th + cap

Tanev will probably go for a 2nd + 3rd or something.

That doesn’t mean it’s not going to drop. They’ll still end up well above average by the end of the year, but it will drop
If by “it” you mean shooting percentage, sure. But the thread topic is whether or not they can continue winning into the New Year, which… I don’t know, maybe?

What is crazy is that Tanev would be great for the Oil... I'd do a backflip if we could get him for something like that.

Allvin should consider that. to acquire a 2 way center like Lindholm with nothing out of the lineup, thats the pièce de résistance for this team right now.

Most teams would be looked at under a microscope at #1 besides the usual guys like Boston, Tampa, Col. When newer teams leap up there, there is a lo tof curiosity.

I looked at the Jets personally. They choked the top spot before, but they play a good defensive game (better than Van) , have a really good goalie like VAN, and they don't have any 20%+ shooters. Their highest is 16% with Connor. They are not doing anything that is unsustainable. They don't have SIX 20%+ shooters or they are not doubling up the 2nd best team team for Rush shooting %.

Besides all of that, who cares if Vancouver "regresses a bit". They already built up a strong year. They can afford to regress and they will still make a good playoff spot.
