im expecting a losing streak to begin now
January is a tough month for them as they are going on a 7 game road trip so of course it won't last but as a lifelong Canuck fan I'm actually happy with the team this year and the prospects also look better than they have in a long time.

we should ignore it since it's a small sample size...if you think the Canucks will sustain this record-high PDO over 82 games, you're mistaken

very high, mainly due to goaltending and not shooting %...what's your point?
I wonder why sample size is a reasonable explanation for Vegas but with Vancouver everyone harps on PDO. After 10 games all the talk was about PDO. I bet if I go back some loser was saying they would be in the basement by Christmas, because look at their PDO.

So weird. It’s almost like PDO is nothing more than a desperate excuse trotted out by haters.

There’s a difference between being able to enjoy your team doing well and obnoxiously gloating/ flooding a general hockey subforum with various accomplishments the team has over the season. I reeks of insecurity and a lack of social awareness.
I think every team has a few posters like that who get their kicks trolling. It's pretty much just two posters from the Canucks running around this area of the boards "making new friends".

Yeah. So needy.

So no other fan bases does the same thing here when their team is doing well? Or is it just when Canucks do well? The forum here is to talk hockey and if a team that missed the playoffs last year are now 1st or 2nd in NHL halfway through the season, they can create threads here talking about their team. Nothing wrong with that so am not sure why you are whining about it since Canucks fans arent the only fans that gloat when doing well.

To answer the question, No

You're unreasonably triggered by people pointing to the PDO.

Given how surprising the Canucks' season is, their average underlying numbers and astronomically high PDO, the only way you're going to escape the topic is by avoiding this thread.

PDO talk won't go away until it regresses toward the mean and/or the Canucks drop in the standings.

Vancouver Canucks cheer on the PDO. Our MVP this season.

No other fanbase does this.

Oilers fans don’t appear and disappear like magic, depending on how the last 10 games have gone

And what if neither really happens?

At what point do haters run out of their pathetic excuses?

You're missing the point I'm making.

This is a thread about Vancouver surprisingly topping the standings.

People are discussing how this can be since Vancouver were expected to be middle-of-the-pack and have been playing well but seemingly not well enough to top the standings, and the PDO is a statistic that immediately jumps out as a possible explanation because it is a massive outlier.

This is entirely normal on a hockey forum, as is Canucks fans being homers and coming to defend their team (and fans of my team to take some jabs back etc).

To you, however, it seems to be this personal insult that infuriates you to an extent that makes me think you'd be better off just not opening this thread if it makes you so angry.

You're of course free to do as you please.

Vancouver was expected to miss playoffs according to geniuses here, not even middle of the pack team. No wonder everyone here is shell shocked seeing them on top of the standings. Only few people that had a bit of common sense and could see improvements predicted Canucks as a wild card team. Now those people who peedicted Canucks would be bottom feeders this year seem to.have become experts in PDO and underlying stats

It's normal to do it after 10 games? When the sample size is ridiculous and easily thrown off by an 8-1 game, 10-1 game, and 5-0 game? Even at this point taking out the first game drops their PDO by 0.5%.

PDO is being harped on because it's a convenient cope for haters. No other team gets this sort of treatment.

Where is the endless "xGF% is bad! Negative 5 on 5 goal differential! Power play bender! Power play merchants!" garbage for the Rangers?

But this is nonsense because most teams that are near or around the top of the league, conference or division, have a higher PDO than the teams at the bottom. Last I checked, the Rangers weren't bottom half in PDO.

Generally but it tends to even out after 82 games usually.

You look at the top ten teams in points from last season:
1.036
.992
1.003
1.013
1.010
1.006
1.012
1.013
.989

from 21/22
1.005
1.014
1.010
1.002
1.023
1.011
1.012
1.024
1.017
.991

Canucks so far 1.048. Bruins had 1.036 last season and set a regular season record for points. That was a big outlier.

Clearly nowhere to go but down for Vancouver. Doesn't mean the Canucks are going to miss the playoffs, but they aren't anywhere near as good as their record indicates.

I'm not sure why some fans are so reluctant to amid that luck plays a big part in hockey games. I mean its pretty clear that it does when you watch the games.

Well duh, they lead the west in points.

Nowhere but down to go for the Rangers too.

They are exactly as good as their record indicates.

They are 16th, but they are also a mediocre 5 on 5 team. 19th offense, 15th defense.

I was wrong, they finally did edge above 50 on GF%. goal differential of +1.
