Vancouver Canucks fire Travis Green, name Bruce Boudreau head coach

I assume its been mentioned, but why hire a coach before a GM? Don't you want the GM to come in and bring in "their guy" as the coach? Was there risk of Boudreau signing with another team if they didn't move on this ASAP? Or is Boudreau a temporary coach until they find a GM to take over and make a decision if they want to bring in their own guy or not?

figure it when his contract is out? deal it it? Aqualini maybe wants BB’s style.

No one applying will care too much a coach is already in place. They just be happy to GM. Easy scapegoat if things don’t turn around. It’s really not a big deal. You have to work with a ton of new ppl you didn’t hire when coming into this type of role. He’s the subordinate; it’d take a lot for there to be significant friction and you just fire him if there is.

When you have a great Goalie and great offensive players you have a chance every night in this league.

Green gutted and misused the offensive talent on the Canucks and tried to turn them into a grind it out defense first team. That is a horrible read on personnel. And if the Canucks were in this position losing games 6-4 instead of 4-1 he would get more sympathy for lack of quality defensive players.

But this failure just reeks of player misuse and stubbornness not to change his system to fit the horses he has.

Total failure at every level of the Canucks organization.

I am excited to see what they can do with a more offensively minded coach with a reputation of getting the most out of his offensive stars.

No idea what the fascination is with Green, the media is saying he will be highly sought after but like what exactly has he proven?

As another poster mentioned above, his style is boring and it sucks, Boudreau is basically guaranteed to get more out of this roster

Yzerman looked and realized Blashill was not the problem.

Detroit had a pretty bare cupboard. Yzerman has since made some keen draft picks and trades. Raymond and Seider look like grand slam home run picks and Nedeljkovic looks like the steal of the year trade.
