3 good years of luongo aren't worth either of those packages to me.

I think it would be for the Bozak/Kadri package. Honestly, will Bozak or Kadri even be here in three years or help our team within the next three years? I highly doubt that.

i think that the team is so far away from being a legit cup-contender that i just don't see how it makes sense to grab a goalie for 3-years of good service, while getting rid of prospects. my point being that i'd rather keep our high-end prospects right now, with the (biased?) opinion that they will be important contributors to the team when we are actually a legit squad.

i'm assuming you're probably more on the fence about kadri, whereas i do think he's going to be a good player in the nhl

I would rather tank in a shortened season than lose Gardiner in this trade. I know people here hate tanking talk, but I don't care.

Gardiner should absolutely be off the table for a player with Luongo's contract. Hell, his value should have dropped with the new CBA details. We should be talking about giving up less than before, not more.

I don't want to start a new thread, but could anyone provide any insight on whether JVR for Luongo is now a heightened possibility with Burke out of the way?

Before it may have seemed a bit taboo for Burke to trade a young player he had just acquired, but Nonis may not feel as connected to that acquisition (even though he surely had a hand in it). Would Nonis consider trading JVR for Luongo straight up? I know some nuck fans had been in favour of that prior to the firing; how would leaf fans feel?

I wouldn't trade Gardiner straight up for Luongo.

Might seem silly value wise, but I hope Gardiner is a huge part of this team for years to come. I don't want him moved to bring in an aging goaltender.

I would be shocked if the leafs gave up gardiner + kadri, that would be criminal **** by gillis.

We are far away from being a cup contender, but just making the playoffs can lead to some pretty surprising things. I see more benefit out of making the playoffs for three years instead of keeping Bozak (who we likely will not re-sign after this season) and keeping Kadri who I believe will not be a great player for our team.

I'm not talking about getting rid of prospects, I am however open to the idea of getting rid of A prospect in Kadri.

I don't understand how trading Gardiner benefits us. We're better of trading Rielly... If we have 4-5 years with Luongo then we'd want to compete now not 2-3 years from now when Rielly can replace him.

Id rather tank and trade off our assets and rebuild properly than trade the only Leaf that gave us hope in our rebuild. Look at the Canucks board and how happy they'd be to get Gardiner.

Hey guys,

According to Doug MacLean of Rogers Sportsnet, the Toronto Maple Leafs might trade Nazem Kadri and either Tyler Bozak or Jake Gardiner in a packaged deal for Roberto Luongo.

Deal #1

Nazem Kadri and Tyler Bozak

or

Deal #2

Nazem Kadri and Jake Gardiner
Deal #1

No.

Deal #2

**** NO!

It is so funny to see everyone get so riled up over an unsubstantiated rumor.

Canucks GM Mike Gillis said Leafs firing Brian Burke won't affect Luongo trade. Also said nothing will happen on it til NHLPA ratifies deal.

Mike Gillis says he doesn't think the change in #leafs management will affect a potential Luongo deal.

Canucks GM Mike Gillis says today's Brian Burke news does not change the Roberto Luongo storyline, one way or the other.

read in between the lines

Sure sounds like a luongo deal to toronto is basically done.

You think?

That's not the impression I get from reading that.

Horrific day for the Leafs if they trade Gardiner. Nonis should be absolutely ashamed with himself if he trades our future #1 defenseman for a couple years of first round playoff exits.

Kings came 8th and won the cup, it happens.

Wings fan coming in peace.

I believe Burke has done an above average job rebuilding your team, despite the Komo signing (never saw him tanking like he has) or even the Kessel trade.

However, you guys have just started to turn the corner with a bright future then I can remember. Under no circumstances would I ever take that contract on ever ever ever.

Wait 48 games, make the playoffs or don’t and then after Van buys him out, sign him or if he is not available, revaluate from there. You are more than a goalie from contending.

Fans over on the wings board lost their minds when we lost out on Suter, Semin, parise etc. However, if you look at Hollands track record, patience has been how he has built the franchise. I hope Leafs management does the same as it would be great to see the Buds competitive long term.
