The Pettersson interview after the game was, um, uninspiring. I think them cutting bait on him too, at the end of the year, is more than 50%.
It’s baffling how even at a lower cap hit and no trade protection at all, the value for Miller was still so low. They tried to trade him three years ago and the best offer was Chytil, Lundqvist and a first. The idea that there was some materially better offer out there if they just waited a bit longer seems like wishful thinking to me, especially since he’s old and getting older.
Think it’s fair to question whether it was necessary to move him at all, but I’m not sure you can be overly critical with how little we know about what was happening behind the scenes.
As I said, though, it still really sucks.

makes you wonder if we should trade our pick this year or their pick to pickup a guy.If I'm reading the standings right, if the season ended today the Canucks would own the Rangers' unprotected 2026 first.
You wait and see. If the Rangers go on a run before the deadline and look comfortably in a playoff spot, then you obviously trade it. If they fall off a cliff, then you hold onto that pick for dear life.makes you wonder if we should trade our pick this year or their pick to pickup a guy.

Maybe there’s another angle we can consider this trade a win. Does Mancini come in and maybe, hopefully, bump Juulsen out of the lineup?
He only waived for 1 team. There was 0 bidding war.Underwhelming......but then there really was never any other way this was going to turn out. Miller was at the bottom of the market cycle, and other teams just weren't willing to buck up.
But if the moves made by Allvin and Rutherford in the past, mean anything, they probably have another deal already in the works. That Rangers first rounder probably figures prominently in the next deal.
Damn it100% our pick.
Instant clown take.
Work your anti-magic Millermakes you wonder if we should trade our pick this year or their pick to pickup a guy.
This is why the NHL needs to get rid of guaranteed contracts too many Loui Erikssons floating around on long term deals ruins the quality of the product. The NHLPA would never agree though.
Manicini's the most interesting part of this trade TBH. He has all the makings of a guy who ends up being the best piece coming out of a trade.
….We don’t deserve semi good thingsI hope the pick becomes Landon DuPont next year
Kinda defeats the entire purpose of contract establishment though? This is why the NHL needs to get rid of guaranteed contracts too many Loui Erikssons floating around on long term deals ruins the quality of the product. The NHLPA would never agree though.

Should Hughes should be able walk away from his contract and become a UFA because he's outperforming it?

We'll see. It's his time to step up.
If he performs the Canucks will make the playoffs and all will be forgiven. The team finally has a 2nd pairing so he cannot blame the defence. He needs to be at a point per game pace for the remainder of the season at a minimum.
If he's injured and can't do it, that sucks. But at the same time, that injury is also a reason to move on from him.
My gut feeling is that he's about to go on an absolute heater.
We've pretty much had 2 if you combine them altogether.I too would like to see a 3 season lockout.
couldn't be further from the truth. Eddie is a buddy of mine (my AZ realtor) and he is drinking because he is livid right not.Something tells me Eddie isn't a JT fan.
