Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

They tried to trade him three years ago and the best offer was Chytil, Lundqvist and a first. The idea that there was some materially better offer out there if they just waited a bit longer seems like wishful thinking to me, especially since he’s old and getting older.

Think it’s fair to question whether it was necessary to move him at all, but I’m not sure you can be overly critical with how little we know about what was happening behind the scenes.

As I said, though, it still really sucks.
It’s baffling how even at a lower cap hit and no trade protection at all, the value for Miller was still so low.

The Pettersson interview after the game was, um, uninspiring. I think them cutting bait on him too, at the end of the year, is more than 50%.
It was fine?

Sure, it wasn't President Bill Pulman's Independence Day speech, but I'm not sure what people are expecting. It's a weird and awkward situation for any person to be in an he answered it as best as you'd expect out of anyone in that position.

makes you wonder if we should trade our pick this year or their pick to pickup a guy.
You wait and see. If the Rangers go on a run before the deadline and look comfortably in a playoff spot, then you obviously trade it. If they fall off a cliff, then you hold onto that pick for dear life.

Maybe there’s another angle we can consider this trade a win. Does Mancini come in and maybe, hopefully, bump Juulsen out of the lineup?

Pedey came in and play solid minutes while dragging Vinnie along the seafloor, our coaches spat him out like tobacco, what chance does Mancini have?

Jack Adams winner my ass.

Underwhelming......but then there really was never any other way this was going to turn out. Miller was at the bottom of the market cycle, and other teams just weren't willing to buck up.

But if the moves made by Allvin and Rutherford in the past, mean anything, they probably have another deal already in the works. That Rangers first rounder probably figures prominently in the next deal.
He only waived for 1 team. There was 0 bidding war.

Instant clown take.

It’s not that far off.

Chytil is a guy who has some nice tools (size, skating) and is a streak scorer where he sometimes puts them together and looks impressive …

… but when he isn’t scoring, he’s pretty bad. Soft player, has always played very sheltered/soft minutes even on a team that didn’t have many leverage C options, terrible on faceoffs, doesn’t PK. Will go from 10 goals in 25 games to 1 in his next 25 and you can’t find him without a program.

I wonder if he’s actually a winger long-term but they’ll need him to keep playing C.

Went on a scoring bender at the start of 22-23 (19 goals through 43 games) that earned him his current contract and he basically turned back into a pumpkin before the ink was dry, and he’s never done anything else to justify that contract before or since.

This isn’t a player (or player/contract package, especially) I’ve ever really liked much at all (to me he feels like a player Jim Benning would have loved) but hopefully he can change my mind.

Rangers fan here who has watched 99% of the games Filip Chytil has played in. He's a talented player and likeable individual. He commonly stands out for his work effort and intensity level on the ice when compared to most of the other players. He's good at transporting the puck through the neutral zone and establishing possession in the offensive zone - his finishing ability can be streaky but he's capable of generating higher quality scoring chances for sure. He has seen very little power play time because of the Rangers other options - so that could be an area of previously untapped potential for him. He's had some issues with various injuries in the past but not a specific injury that is likely to continue reoccurring. He appears to be healthy after missing all that time last season with a concussion. The only real concern Rangers fans had about him was not his effort or play on the ice but his health status and hoping that he wouldn't suffer a significant concussion again after returning. Chytil isn't known for being on the receiving end of big hits - but sometimes he loses his situational awareness and will run into one of his teammates in like a blindsided collision. Overall a likeable guy who is easy to root for. The change of scenery could serve to give his game a boost and I'll be rooting for him to do well for the Canucks. Many Rangers fans would have otherwise been content with utilizing a healthy Chytil as our #2 center (if not for the other vets on the roster blocking him).

Victor Mancini I wasn't able to watch while he was in the AHL but I saw him play during his games with the Rangers. He's got a big frame and is a very athletic player who can move quickly and efficiently around the ice. He doesn't stand out as having one primary attribute that's going to define his game, but he could develop into one of those more well-rounded defenseman who are above average in more than one area of the game but not 'great' at any of them (his skating is really good though). If his NHL development goes well, I could see him project to become a 2nd-pairing #4 defenseman on a team with decent defensive depth.

This is why the NHL needs to get rid of guaranteed contracts too many Loui Erikssons floating around on long term deals ruins the quality of the product. The NHLPA would never agree though.

Should Hughes should be able walk away from his contract and become a UFA because he's outperforming it?

Manicini's the most interesting part of this trade TBH. He has all the makings of a guy who ends up being the best piece coming out of a trade.

Yeah, he’s not a player I have a great read on. Definitely the most interesting part of the trade to me.

He was absolutely nowhere as a prospect before coming out of left field at their camp this year - you won’t find a prospect ranking with him in the top 10 or 15 before October. Then has had a much better offensive run this year than his NCAA numbers would have indicated he was capable of.

So is he a guy on a ripper of a development curve that we shrewdly got in front of here? Or is he a fungible guy who had a blip that the Rangers have smartly sold high on?

Seems to move well and be physical. Not sure how well he processes the game.

We'll see. It's his time to step up.

If he performs the Canucks will make the playoffs and all will be forgiven. The team finally has a 2nd pairing so he cannot blame the defence. He needs to be at a point per game pace for the remainder of the season at a minimum.

If he's injured and can't do it, that sucks. But at the same time, that injury is also a reason to move on from him.

My gut feeling is that he's about to go on an absolute heater.

He has NO choice, he has to.

Team went out of their way to give him literally everything, and if he does not play up to his 11 mil price tag, the fans will peel the flesh off of his f***ing bones.
