Proposal: Van/NYI: Miller/Hoglander/Rathbone

Yeah I had no idea Miller was this under rated. As of today the best player in the deal hands down. The guy does it all and I have no idea why people don’t factor in his contract? I for one don’t want to get “rid ” of him as you have to give to get. Hoglander is 20 on a ELC next year as well who I guess if you don’t watch him enough understand how much he impacts a game in all 3 zones. Rathbone has potential but he is dynamic, we need safe and will run a power play. Lots of people found Hughes expandable last year due to his play.

I get that the proposal sucks but that’s an equally bad take. He’s our best overall centre, 53.5% in the dot, and a two way beast when he’s not making dumb mistakes. It’s why he gets PK minutes.
He’s also taken 300 fewer face offs than Horvat. That doesn’t scream #1 C

What is the reverse in terms of trades for both teams?
VAN: EP40, Hughes
For
NYI: Nelson, Wilde, Wahlstrom

hahaha

Hughes is a much more valuable asset then Dobson, EP40 is higher than Barzal. The overall value of those two is significantly more that the islander pair. Miller is better than Nelson and so on and so forth.

The point was this: top offensive player and top young defenseman for a substantially older package of quality forwards and a prospect. I know the trade isn’t possible, nor is the original offer which would gut the Islanders in terms of speed. These two teams don’t match up at all when it comes to trade partners unless you want to swap Sebastian Aho for another NHL/AHL tweener player.

Dobson numbers look pretty awful this year a top young defenseman is really stretching it.

The Islanders as a whole are in a complete off year but his game has taken substantial strides lately. Since the end of the Covid ordeal they went through, he’s played much better and started to skate the puck quite a bit pushing the play. This never happened outside of the odd rush on the PP.

He has been around or above PPG the last 3 seasons. He is a heart and soul leader, and yeah…. He plays center.
He also has almost double the points of NYI leading scorer. Hahahah
Get real dude. He probably be their best player

Edit, pretty sure Miller has out scored Barzal the last 3 seasons and is signed to a sweet deal.
Looking like Miller might be the more valuable player as it hasn’t been proven that Barzal can produce like Miller

His "sweet deal" is for one more season and then someone's going to have to pay him 7 or 8 + on a long term deal as he enters his 30's. That's definitely not the return for a 24 year old that's an RFA at the end of his deal another season from now.

No one other than Vancouver would make a Miller for Barzal trade.

Great, now we all can agree. Either side would want this deal in anyway.

TJ Miller is a career 0.658 PPG player. He’s real good. But This isn’t a top line C. His own Wiki page isn’t even sure if he’s a LW or C.

Holy shit

JT Miller got a bigger opportunity in Vancouver which has caused him to dramatically increase his offensive numbers.
Given that same opportunity elsewhere, I have no doubt he would have done it much sooner in his career.

JT is a PPG, 3 versatile forward, that is on a great contract, who can literally do everything on the ice.
Making him sound like some middle 6 forward clearly shows that you have no clue what you are talking about.

As for the trade, It's still a pretty awful offer.
Remove JT, Add Boeser and Remove Dobson, and add a islanders 1st, and thats more fair.

Boeser / JT (if you prefer age/potential over needs now) + Hoglander
for
Barzal + 1st (Probably 15 range or better)

Horvat takes more faceoffs, because Horvat's great at taking them. Horvat is a great 2C, taking more faceoffs doesn't take him out of that role.

Vancouver is definitely adding. Or just remove the islanders 1st. Barzal is worth more than any single Vancouver player. Boeser and Highlander aren’t enough by themselves.

Now swapping Hughes for Dobson is a stretch, to say the least. I don't know if you're just trolling or if you say it because they're in the same draft class, but Dobson is not yet in the same caliber as Hughes. Quinn's already been an All-Star and was essentially a lock to make Team USA had they gone, plus he's had more points in his rookie season in fewer games than Dobson's had in his whole career so far (and he's rounded out his defensive game, to the level that he's a plus in his own end).

Why are Islander's fans claiming Barzal is special? He's never shown the ability to be a sustained PPG player, is bad on the dot, and doesn't even seem to light up the PP all that well. He feels like a 1B player and we should already have that once Pettersson gets his groove back.

EDIT: That said, this trade makes no sense for either team. Dobson isn't something NYI is shopping and we don't have much that they'd need. If either team had spare cap space that might change things, but I know the Canucks don't have any, and I don't think the Isles do either.

The reverse was more so an age thing then anything. The Canucks don’t have another defenseman around the same age playing consistent minutes that is a lock to be a top 4 guy with offensive talent based on what I saw. The trade just doesn’t work for either team nor would either GM make a deal moving any of the pieces in either the original offer or the one I made.

No. Hughes is by a wide margin. His game has elevated substantially this year - not interested in his defensive game last year it's not the same player.

Pettersson and Barzal have to be pretty close in value. Wouldn't trade EP for Barzal personally but understand if others would.

Barzal isn’t available and neither is Dobson -

draft and develop your own RHD and lock MIller up long term - close this thread.
