So his numbers aren't at all different in comparison to last year when he wasn't worth even 1 million AAV, but because he's played more games, he's now worth 4.5mil?Some of you are talking like Vancouver just got Lankinen and he's only played a few games. We're now 2/3rds into the season and with Demko injured most of the time Lankinen has been the Canucks starter for the duration. His numbers aren't 'great', but setting the filter at >= 25 GP he's 21st in GS, tied 13th in wins, 19th in sv%, 11th in GAA, and tied 2nd in SO.
I'd say that's well enough to earn a low tier starters salary at this point. It really sucks for Vancouver but this was necessitated by Demko's unreliability, where just as he's back and starting to round into form he's injured again for another few weeks. It's not exactly a buyers market out there for reliable starters at the moment, Lankinen is the Canucks best bet for now.
Exactly. There is reward a career backup then there is this which is almost paying him like a low end started when we have a Vezina calibre starter. I guess they dont want to rely on Demko longer term and thats ok but I am just aprehensive Lankinen is the guy to commit to long term. Or any goalie save 4-5. Look at DeSmith last year. For a half a season he was as good as Demko, then he wasn't even NHL level.Im just saying Lankinen alone has probably helped ensure this management like 2 home playoff gates at the min so rewarding the guy with a contract isnt unheard of.
No one has once said its a "tidy bit of business" so far so we all know its not a homerun or a steal.
We just made a straight up Bernmeiser trade in the span of NHL game the other day.
12 different assets changed hands between the puck drop and final whistle. Do you think we're done?

I don't thing we're done but I don't think obtaining top line talent is easy or cheap.
Yes he won a bunch of games on the road, I was very pleased with his play. He was, along with Quinn the team MVP for the first couple months probably. And then he tread water for a while and seems to be picking it up the last few starts..Lankinen went 7-0-2 to start his Canuck career on the road. He singlehandidly earned us 16 out of 18 points while we couldnt win a game at home.
How can anyone watching this team even compare Casey Desmith barely treading water to Lankinen swimming the entire team to shore himself.
Lankinen passed Casey Desmith's high of 15 wins a month ago and has 20 games left still.
Laurent Broissoit has never played more than 25 games ever and he got 3.3 million. Hasnt played a game due to injury/rehab.
Lanks was always getting the Korpisalo, which was signed TWO UFA periods ago.
