Confirmed Signing with Link: [VAN] F Elias Pettersson signs extension with Canucks (8 years, $11.6M AAV)

Good signing and congrats to Vancouver fans.

Can someone please explain to me what the roster looks like next year given the cap and the fact that Vancouver supposedly wants to resign Lindholm (and eventually Boeser)?

Looks to me like Garland and Mikheyev need to be shipped out? And even then, the defense will have a lot of holes to fill.

Don't get me wrong, a nice problem to have. Just curious how they keep the core together.

He was actually better last year than he's been this year, but I get the feeling this has been hanging over his head for months. I don't think he truly wanted anything but to sign in the off-season; however, this is a business and you are not bigger than the team.

Kudos to management for speeding up the timeline and for getting max term at slightly below market value.

The core is already dealt with, it's the fringe pieces left to deal with. I'm not sure they're realistically going to be able to do Lindholm, but they'll definitely do Hronek, one or both of Blueger/Joshua, and I imagine 1 or 2 of Zadorov/Myers/Cole

No one really knows. There's an argument for and against keeping almost everyone.

Lindholm can walk though, he doesn't even look like he deserves a raise let alone what he turned down in Calgary.

I don't think Lindholm stays unless he takes far less than he wants on the open market. He might have been brought in as more of an insurance policy in case Pettersson left rather than a core piece.

At any rate, he hasn't exactly performed.

I like the Lindholm trade in any event. Try to win the cup this year. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. When you have a cup contending team, you can often get players to sign for discounts, particularly veterans chasing cups.

Garland has been great, but Mikheyev can go if the team is looking to bring in another rental like Guentzel.

To be honest, Mikh has been good when not recovering from injury, but like Kuzmenko the team has other plans

Finally got him locked up long-term, his trade value has never been higher! :D

Yep, if Lindholm performs in the playoffs nobody will remember that he wasn’t producing in regular season

Nice work Vancouver, and happy for the fans. Love when teams keep their homegrown superstars.
Probably shaved enough AAV for ELC/4th liner/3rd pairing guy, so in a sense a 2 for 1 here.

First move would be to re-sign Hronek, didn't just give up a 1st for him for nothing. Presuming he gets around $7-$8 million, that leaves around $16 million. After that, perhaps there's a sweetened trade to move Mikheyev (though they've been pretty good at getting value for overpaid guys, e.g. Kuzmenko/ Pearson/ Josh Bloom trades), then it's just re-signing depth (first tier to bring back would probably be DeSmith, Blueger, Joshua, Zadorov and Cole, or their replacements). Lafferty and Myers can go, and perhaps they sign Lindholm to a deal after moving Mikheyev, but if they can do that without overpaying, we're going to look pretty good, and we can always kick the can down the road when it comes to future re-signings (e.g. Boeser).

With how they managed free agency signings last season (no big money given out besides for Ian Cole who's a top-4 D), I'm confident in how they've set up their top-6/ bottom-6 pay structure like how Tampa had done it (e.g. big money goes to the stars, the rest can get around a million each). With the core locked up it'll afford us lots of flexibility in who we bring in since UFAs would want to play on a contender.
