brutal trade. The product of a GM falling in love with a player the same way Benning fell in love with OEL. Very Benning like with the idea of an accelerated rebuild.
The difference being Hronek is actually a good player who is still early in his prime, whereas OEL was old, injury ridden and came with one of the worst contracts in the NHL.

The real question: is Hronek a good fit alongside Quinn Hughes. And if not, can he anchor a 2nd pair by himself?

If not, wow, what a self-inflicted wound.

Also massively puts us behind the 8-ball to dump salary any which way we can, and to hell with the assets surrendered to make that happen.

Just what I had a modicum of hope we were finally going to f***ing rebuild they go and pull this shit. Hronek isn't even a bad player but what's the goddamn point of getting a 26 year old when we're nowhere close to be relevant?

Aquilini still giving marching orders on this doomed franchise.
This is the crux of it, yep.

at first i was like, holy wow, i didn't think you could get filip hronek for that price

then a second later, i realized, oh wait, i was thinking of moritz seider, the younger much bigger high upside guy who made hronek superfluous as their small, offensive RHD

and then very quickly, jesus a middle-third first rounder AND a second?

If we really wanted to be moronic, at least go for someone like Chychrun , IIRC he can play the right side no issues.

Just way too hard to be invested in this team at the moment.

Ugh.

Also, they're definitely not moving Miller. (No matter how much of a long shot it may have been. ) this is a "we're going to try to make the playoffs next year" move.
