The West is gonna be a bloodbath in the playoffs lol
Kuzmenko scored 74 for a even more hapless Canucks last year64 points last year on a pretty hapless Flames team.
Good analysis. The value is less than the Horvat return as it should be.Entertaining read here: why is it locked btw?
Proposal: - Lindholm to Canucks for Hunter Brustewicz +
To CGY Hunter Brustewicz Kuzmenko 2024 1st round pick To Van Lindholm Canucks then extend Lindholm to a 7.5 x 7 contract The trade would allow the Canucks to continue to deploy the lotto line and have Lindholm Centre the 2nd line with players like Mikhyaev, Hoglander, Suter etc.. or they...forums.hfboards.com
Very happy with this trade for the Canucks (obviously since i proposed it a couple of weeks ago)
- Lindholm checks ALOT of the boxes.
- Canucks had a historically bad Penalty Kill last year, this year they are mid, one factor from that is they didnt have a Right Shot Centre that can take faceoffs. Lindholm instantly becomes the Canuck's best PKer
-Cap Space and flexebility, even after giving Pettersson and Hronek their raise, Canucks will have somewhere around 35 million in cap space in the off-season. They can choose to spend that on Lindholm, or if he isnt a fit then they can go after the likes of Geuntzel. They can also use the cap space to trade for someone and get a discount because we all know, cap is king.
- Canucks didnt give up any of their top prospects ( Willander, Lekkerimakki, Hoglander, Podkolzin) This is huge becuase it still gives them bullets to possibly make more trades by the deadline.
- On the ice, it gives the Canucks soo many options for lines. they can go 1-2-3 down the middle of Miller, Pettersson, Lindholm. or they can load up their top 6 and go with a pairing of Miller , Boeser and EP40 Lindholm.
- PP1 is gonna be scary. Lindholm is like another Boeser, quick and accurate release, good around the net and good on the soft bumper spot. This should give EP40 more room to unload those bombs as teams wont be able to cheat on his side as much.
For CGY
-The 1st round pick is probably the most valuable piece in the return.
- Bruz is a great prospect. He's not undersized, he is an offensive Dman that has skating issues but elite offensive instincts. His defensive game is also starting to round out.
-Kuzmenko, he was necessary in this trade to make the numbers fit. Can probably be flipped for a 3rd round pick next season but id do it in the off-season. He's not the type of player that playoff teams will be looking to add at next years trade deadline. Kuzy having Calgary in his no trade clause would worry me, he is under contract next year so you dont want him to be checked out this year or next.
- Joni Jurmo is a nothing burger. He didnt get signed by Van for a reason. He has a projectable frame at 6'4 and skates like the wind. He is a Defenceman that cant play defence, Canuck fan base wanted him to switch to forward the last few seasons. I'd give him less than 5% chance to be an NHL regular.
All in all i think this is a win-win trade. Canucks paid for today's version of Lindholm plus unloaded cap. I'd say the return is what exactly what it should be based on that.
1. Late second round would be a C+. 3rd round is almost necessary to see this as a successful rental. But only a cup finals appearance would make it an A+.So where do the Nucks need to get for most non-fans to consider this a success?
1. if it is a rental
2. if Lindholm re-signs (and what cap hit is "good value")
Lindholms previous demand was 8 years at 9.5mil per. Highly unlikely hes signing at 7,5mil. Cap is going up in the offseason and he will be the best center available as a UFA. Fans are in for a rude awakening about what players are going to be getting paid.[TABLE=collapse]

This is a path to retaining Lindholm at 7.5m, signing Pettersson at 12m, Hronek at 7.5m, and Zadorov at 4.5m. We would essentially have 7.8m left to sign a Top 4D, a bottom pairing D, two bottom pairing forwards, and a depth player. It's tight, but doable, if we wanted to go that route.
We could also not re-sign Zadorov, or try to move out Garland or Mikheyev, for some breathing room.
This part is HUGE and really getting overlooked here.People don't realize the Canucks just freed up 5.5 mil in cap for next yr while getting better now. There is a lot they can do with that.
I doubt Kuz is long for Calgary. UFA in 2025. Probably gone by March 2025 at the latest.Assuming Kuzmenko's value is minimal, this is about what you pay for a good top-6 UFA. Both teams are getting what they want here.
I don't necessarily disagree, I just think it's risky. If he's good, what does that extension actually look like? Does he sign that extension before seeing what stupid offers he can get in UFA?
Lindholms previous demand was 8 years at 9.5mil per. Highly unlikely hes signing at 7,5mil. Cap is going up in the offseason and he will be the best center available as a UFA. Fans are in for a rude awakening about what players are going to be getting paid.

Yeah, I still think he gets 8.5x7Lindholms previous demand was 8 years at 9.5mil per. Highly unlikely hes signing at 7,5mil. Cap is going up in the offseason and he will be the best center available as a UFA. Fans are in for a rude awakening about what players are going to be getting paid.
9.5? Probably not. But most teams out there will gladly beat a 7,5mil offer. It depends how bad Lindholm wants to win right now. He's not going to get anything close to 9.5M per on a contender.
Kuzmenko scored 74 for a even more hapless Canucks last year
Lindholm got all the ice time and scoring opportunities, 64 is pathetic
Again if someone else carry the line, Lindholm can contribute.
I probably pushed it a bit far with Forsberg, but I think what you and I can probably agree on is this. The Avs had a greater chance to lose the Lindholm trade than Vancouver does.I mean, that's fair. It's entirely reasonable for the Avs to just want to hang onto promising young players with big upside. Especially if they internally value you them like you do, contrasted with more likely league-wide perceptions.
I just don't think either is as entrenched as a true "A Prospect" as Forsberg was at the time of that hilarious Erat deal. Like Forsberg was a true Bluechip "can't miss" sort of prospect. ~Top-10 pick who was also tracking very well.
I question really what the vision Allvin has if they re-sign Lindholm at his reported contract demands.
He's a worse player than Horvat and they didn't want to pay Horvat. Doesn't make sense to do it with Lindholm. They also have far more important needs to allocate the cap space toward (Petey, Hronek, Demko, and eventually Hughes).
I think if Lindholm is a fit, they will 100% sign him. Not worried about the cap, Mikheyev will get moved for sure, and possibly Garland as well.[TABLE=collapse]

I do not think it will be easy to find trades for Garland or Mikheyev that don't require Vancouver to take back similar contracts.I think if Lindholm is a fit, they will 100% sign him. Not worried about the cap, Mikheyev will get moved for sure, and possibly Garland as well.
This Kuzmenko guy isn't some scrub. When he is playing well... he's a total handful. It wasn't happening for him this season, but last season... he was a factor to be reckoned with. And it's very possible someone that skilled and good a skater can find a higher level again.Canucks brass may already consider it a success since they got 5.5 off the books next year.
As for fans, I don't consider this a particularly big loss, Bruzc wasn't in our blue chip prospect pool and the first is probably going to be 28th, ultimately though a lot of the younger fans are a bit more on edge about making big deadline deals while many older fans remember the pain of 2011 and would rather the team go all in.
The 2011 team kept their 1st round pick, why would they do that and not address the glaring lack of a top 6 winger for Kesler? Pettersson got the Kesler treatment a lot this past year, so getting him someone to play with is hugely important.
