64 points last year on a pretty hapless Flames team.
Kuzmenko scored 74 for a even more hapless Canucks last year

Lindholm got all the ice time and scoring opportunities, 64 is pathetic

Again if someone else carry the line, Lindholm can contribute.

Entertaining read here: why is it locked btw?

Very happy with this trade for the Canucks (obviously since i proposed it a couple of weeks ago)

- Lindholm checks ALOT of the boxes.
- Canucks had a historically bad Penalty Kill last year, this year they are mid, one factor from that is they didnt have a Right Shot Centre that can take faceoffs. Lindholm instantly becomes the Canuck's best PKer
-Cap Space and flexebility, even after giving Pettersson and Hronek their raise, Canucks will have somewhere around 35 million in cap space in the off-season. They can choose to spend that on Lindholm, or if he isnt a fit then they can go after the likes of Geuntzel. They can also use the cap space to trade for someone and get a discount because we all know, cap is king.
- Canucks didnt give up any of their top prospects ( Willander, Lekkerimakki, Hoglander, Podkolzin) This is huge becuase it still gives them bullets to possibly make more trades by the deadline.
- On the ice, it gives the Canucks soo many options for lines. they can go 1-2-3 down the middle of Miller, Pettersson, Lindholm. or they can load up their top 6 and go with a pairing of Miller , Boeser and EP40 Lindholm.
- PP1 is gonna be scary. Lindholm is like another Boeser, quick and accurate release, good around the net and good on the soft bumper spot. This should give EP40 more room to unload those bombs as teams wont be able to cheat on his side as much.

For CGY

-The 1st round pick is probably the most valuable piece in the return.
- Bruz is a great prospect. He's not undersized, he is an offensive Dman that has skating issues but elite offensive instincts. His defensive game is also starting to round out.
-Kuzmenko, he was necessary in this trade to make the numbers fit. Can probably be flipped for a 3rd round pick next season but id do it in the off-season. He's not the type of player that playoff teams will be looking to add at next years trade deadline. Kuzy having Calgary in his no trade clause would worry me, he is under contract next year so you dont want him to be checked out this year or next.
- Joni Jurmo is a nothing burger. He didnt get signed by Van for a reason. He has a projectable frame at 6'4 and skates like the wind. He is a Defenceman that cant play defence, Canuck fan base wanted him to switch to forward the last few seasons. I'd give him less than 5% chance to be an NHL regular.

All in all i think this is a win-win trade. Canucks paid for today's version of Lindholm plus unloaded cap. I'd say the return is what exactly what it should be based on that.

So where do the Nucks need to get for most non-fans to consider this a success?
1. if it is a rental
2. if Lindholm re-signs (and what cap hit is "good value")

Good analysis. The value is less than the Horvat return as it should be.

One of the biggest pieces for Van was shedding Kuz's salary this and next yr.

The price was low enough the Canucks can try Lindholm out and pivot to one of the UFAs if it doesn't work out.

1. Late second round would be a C+. 3rd round is almost necessary to see this as a successful rental. But only a cup finals appearance would make it an A+.

A player as versatile as Lindholm and has a complete 200ft game is every coaches dream.

They can now match up line for line, down the middle with teams like Vegas and LA come playoff time.

This is a path to retaining Lindholm at 7.5m, signing Pettersson at 12m, Hronek at 7.5m, and Zadorov at 4.5m. We would essentially have 7.8m left to sign a Top 4D, a bottom pairing D, two bottom pairing forwards, and a depth player. It's tight, but doable, if we wanted to go that route.

We could also not re-sign Zadorov, or try to move out Garland or Mikheyev, for some breathing room.
Lindholms previous demand was 8 years at 9.5mil per. Highly unlikely hes signing at 7,5mil. Cap is going up in the offseason and he will be the best center available as a UFA. Fans are in for a rude awakening about what players are going to be getting paid.

I don't necessarily disagree, I just think it's risky. If he's good, what does that extension actually look like? Does he sign that extension before seeing what stupid offers he can get in UFA?

It's the same risk any contract carries. Vancouver is in win now with Pettersson, Demko, Miller, Hughes, and Boeser in their primes. The right play, assuming Lindholm works out, would be to sign Lindholm to a 6-7 year contract knowing that the back 2-3 years will probably be bad.

Lindholm can be dynamite when he has chemistry. If he has chemistry with Pettersson, you hang onto him.

It depends how bad Lindholm wants to win right now. He's not going to get anything close to 9.5M per on a contender.

1. Conference Final
2. 7,75-8,25

Anything above 8,25 and Vancouver really should think about writing it off as a payoff push. Like i said in a previous post, i don't think what they gave up hurt them that much.

Yeah, I still think he gets 8.5x7

Lindholm wanted out last year, so he's been playing on a team for the last 1.5 seasons that he didn't want to be on. No player will put in 100% efffort playing on a team they couldn't care less for. Watch him bounce back on Vancouver with a new setting and teammates.

I mean, that's fair. It's entirely reasonable for the Avs to just want to hang onto promising young players with big upside. Especially if they internally value you them like you do, contrasted with more likely league-wide perceptions.

I just don't think either is as entrenched as a true "A Prospect" as Forsberg was at the time of that hilarious Erat deal. Like Forsberg was a true Bluechip "can't miss" sort of prospect. ~Top-10 pick who was also tracking very well.
I probably pushed it a bit far with Forsberg, but I think what you and I can probably agree on is this. The Avs had a greater chance to lose the Lindholm trade than Vancouver does.

If you're betting on which of Ritchie, Gulyayev and Brzustewicz are most likely to hit at the NHL level, you'd bet in that exact order and I do think you'd have a sizable gap between Gulyayev and Brzustewicz. The two Avs guys were rated as 1st round picks in what was rated as an excellent draft. And they look great post draft. They have fewer warts and more transferable NHL skills (size/speed/hands - Ritchie) or insane speed and skating ability (Gulyayev).

So I'm very very comfortable with Vancouver winning this race to get Lindholm given what the cost would have been for the Avs to land this guy. I was very relieved when I saw the trade. That was my first instinct and it is still how I feel the day after. I'm no longer afraid of this trade deadline because there isn't a rental available that could fetch either of Ritchie or Gulyayev. Lindholm was far and away the best and only one that could have made such an ask and expected consideration.

Vancouver had better pieces to offer to find a fair deal for both sides. This is a good trade IMO. Fair value for a real good player.

And I'm very glad Lindholm didn't end up in the Central. A playoff series between the Oilers and Vancouver would be really something based on the way this season is shaping up. And as a general hockey fan... that really excites me. And I suspect many of y'all as well.

And make no doubt that if this Oil vs Canuck series is played.. I'm rooting hard for Vancouver and not because I think the Avs would have an easier time to beat them in round 3. I don't. I'm rooting for Vancouver because I like watching Hughes and EP play so much (I've watched them a ton the past two+ seasons). Also such a pretty city. And F Edmonton and their rigged lottery wins. It's going to be amazing when Vancouver beats them and Drai won't resign this summer and gets moved out. You can end their lottery rigged dynasty that never was and Lindholm is exactly the kind of player to disrupt their PP. Your GM went out and got this guy to beat the Oilers. And if you do and Drai bolts in the offseason... the trade is the hugest win for you guys in terms of giving Oiler fans hell for the next 10+ years.

One of the funniest things about being an American hockey fan is seeing how much you Canadian fans hate each other and how personal the rivalries are. I love it. I always tend to watch Canadian vs Canadian games on TV simply for the atmosphere in the barn. And then watching you guys bash each other. It's great entertainment.

I question really what the vision Allvin has if they re-sign Lindholm at his reported contract demands.

He's a worse player than Horvat and they didn't want to pay Horvat. Doesn't make sense to do it with Lindholm. They also have far more important needs to allocate the cap space toward (Petey, Hronek, Demko, and eventually Hughes).

I think if Lindholm is a fit, they will 100% sign him. Not worried about the cap, Mikheyev will get moved for sure, and possibly Garland as well.

So where do the Nucks need to get for most non-fans to consider this a success?

Canucks brass may already consider it a success since they got 5.5 off the books next year.

As for fans, I don't consider this a particularly big loss, Bruzc wasn't in our blue chip prospect pool and the first is probably going to be 28th, ultimately though a lot of the younger fans are a bit more on edge about making big deadline deals while many older fans remember the pain of 2011 and would rather the team go all in.

The 2011 team kept their 1st round pick, why would they do that and not address the glaring lack of a top 6 winger for Kesler? Pettersson got the Kesler treatment a lot this past year, so getting him someone to play with is hugely important.

I just want them to go for it

I do not think it will be easy to find trades for Garland or Mikheyev that don't require Vancouver to take back similar contracts.

Weird how Kuzmenko had Calgary on his no trade clause but had Edmonton as one of the finalist to sign him when he was a free agent.

Maybe he was stringing Edmonton all along and never wanted to sign with them in the first place and immidiately put them on his no trade claause as well as soon as he signed with Vancouver.

This Kuzmenko guy isn't some scrub. When he is playing well... he's a total handful. It wasn't happening for him this season, but last season... he was a factor to be reckoned with. And it's very possible someone that skilled and good a skater can find a higher level again.

If you asked me if RyJo of the Avs had this kind of upside... I'd laugh and then cry.
