Adding Temple is a compete now move and lowers the odds of any trade happening. Bringing that onto the team is an indictment on the current core's leadership skills Siakam, Poeltl, OG aren't rookies anymore, they should handle it but likely can't or won't.

Masai seems committed to the treadmill and the Raps fortunes aren't going to change until this changes or he's gone.

Remind me again why we didn't trade away our Free Agents at the TDL, but instead traded away our 1st round in next year's draft as a bottom dweller?

Who says we're a bottom dweller? The East isn't as good as you think and I believe that pick is lottery protected anyways or like top 5 protected or something like that.

Were a bubble playoff team at best, no chance of winning a chip. You had FA at the deadline like FVV that likely weren't coming back, we should have sold off and got assests to rebuild.

What assets did you think we'd get for VanVleet? He's at best a 3rd or 4th option on a legit team contending for a championship and they aren't going to give up a lot for that when those types of players are all over the league. We got 2 of the better younger 2 way players in the league in OG and Barnes already and both of them are just getting better so I doubt a late 1st round pick which is probably the best asset we get in a FVV trade is gonna help much with a rebuild.

The Toronto Raptors won the Jakob Poeltl sweepstakes for Khem Birch, a protected 2024 first-round draft pick and two future second-round picks, as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported.

Toronto’s 2024 first-round pick is Top 6 protected through 2026, and the Raptors sent unprotected 2023 and 2025 second-round picks as part of the trade to acquire Poeltl from the Spurs, HoopsHype has learned.

FVV on his previous contract would have been tradeable, but I'm not sure he'd even return a 1st rounder unless the contracts coming back really suck. One of the things that Masai is focused on is making sure that we don't give term to bottom of the roster players, making them easier to move if need be.

We are "running it back" to an extent, but we are also in a position where we can move things around next offseason if we want, without any crippling contracts.

It's worth noting that the only guys signed beyond this year currently are: Anunoby, Poetl, Schroeder (only 1 more year), Boucher (only 1 more year), Barnes, Dick, McDaniels and Koloko.

That's 84M, and a couple of those are moveable pieces (as well as moveable cap holds).

Fair but also safe to say Masai dropped the ball in not moving valuable assets earlier. I can't imagine this is his doing but more so the board at MLSE that are focused on making money of Championship players names. It's about run out now though so perhaps they will do some good.

The issue here is that Masai was managing to his coach. The Raps added Poetl because it was clear that Nurse needed him. Everything we have done since the championship has been in line with Nurse.

We've shifted to a developmental coaching staff, so it is likely that we stop buying, but at the same time, we'd like to give them a shot at coaching some of the better players to see if they can unlock more out of Siakim (FVV was Masai underestimating how stupid Houston could be, because that contract that he signed is fugly).

Anunoby’s going to decline his PO. I wouldn’t include him with the guys signed beyond this year.

Atlanta would have to add 2 FRP with little protection. If they did that it’s a pretty good trade considering Siakam is 1 year away from free agency

No point in giving Siakam the max when all he’d do here is keep them in treadmill territory. Gotta move him and actually do a proper rebuild. You’re only adding Hunter cause you have to make the money work, but Griffin who is still only 19 and 2 FRP is probably the most you’re going to get unless a team gets desperate

Maybe Masai finally sees the writing on the wall and has decided to tear it down. This team needed to this 2 years ago…

I'd be okay with that package with 2 x 1st rounders. Sign OG to an extension, build around him Barnes, Dickey and whoever else proves they deserve to stick along for the ride. Trent Jr makes more sense to stay if he can be a good #3 option in the meanwhile.

There's a surplus of talent around the edges of teams. Many rosters won't find minutes for players this season. When this scenario occurs, good players can be acquired at a discount. Best time to rebuild.
