People won't like this but I would move Barnes for Durant assuming he is okay with coming.

End of the day if you could move Barnes + picks for Durant, that’s potentially 4 years of title contending. He’s still a superstar and adding him to FVV, OG, Siakam, and Achiuwa allows them to have a true #1 option and the bench has GTJ, Young, and Boucher (as well as potential vets willing to sign cheap). Tough choice because I love Barnes but that’s probably what it’s going to take.

Edit: I should’ve clarified that salaries don’t match so OG, GTJ, and Birch would be moved in this scenario too. Add PHX as a 3rd team to pull in Ayton. Bench would still be thin but the hope would be to maybe target another shooter with MLE? Then hopefully fill depth with some vets.

That doesn't work money wise, does it?

While I agree you have to do your due dilligence, I wouldn't go after Durant all that hard because a) the price is going to be astronomical and would almost certainly gut the Raptors' depth. Then what? You're adding Durant to a team that would be cap-strapped and shallow beyond compare. Because this isn't going to be another Kawhi trade where they add the superstar by swapping out the guy who's spot he's taking, a solid but not game-changing rotation player, and a pick. and b) Durant is just as complicit in the Net's total implosion as Kyrie is. Their staff is full of "his" guys, they made personnel moves to appease his wants, they allowed him to sit back and soft-pedal the Kyrie and Harden fallouts to protect his image and rep within the locker room. I wouldn't trust him not to wreck a good thing with the Raptors.

No but I also assume that they would go after a C (Ayton) in this scenario too. Basically OG and GTJ and I think Birch would go regardless to match up salaries. Idk, it’s a tough call and Masai will obviously do what he thinks is right and I’ll be okay with it because I love Barnes.
I don’t see us getting involved here.

How much of the MLE do we have left?

We still need a back-up pg - I think it's a bigger need than a C.

The Porter pick up was great, always good to bring in another 3 & D with length.

Durant is way to much of a cancer and toxic personality. He'd coar more than Barnes too. Would be Barnes + 1 of OG/Siakam

Build around Barnes. Do it slowly and right . Don't try and cheat by going fir a top 5 player at the cost of team depth and chemistry

I haven't seen numbers for Porter yet.

People said the same thing about Kawhi.

I would do Barnes + OG + picks for KD.

FVV-Trent-KD-Siakam-Precious

That's a championship level team. It would suck to part with Barnes, but it would be worth it to make another real run at a title.

No they didn't. The potentially negative narrative around the Kawhi trade was always "what if he doesn't want to be here? Or what if he just bails after the one year?"

He never had the baggage that Durant has built up over the last few years.
