No, but he's been dreadful since the before the All-Star break.

We're talking about the reigning eastern conference player of the month Demar Derozan... Same guy right?

There are a lot of people playing poorly these last 2 games but to saddle it on Demar of all people is nonsense.

The true issue is that this team has lost its identity offensively, which was the one thing they could hang their hat on. The team who ran the floor and moved the ball well making the extra pass has reverted to a single screen, ISO a guard and hero ball... Which only works if your name is LeBron, Carmelo or Kobe...

its not a surprise that the raptors are having problems in the playoffs and theres no need to pretend it is.
A lot of raps fans knew they would have trouble because of the stretch of 10 ish games before the end of the season. They haven't played like a div champion and the only way they were going to win a series is if they ran into a bad team in round one.
They have a lot to fix, this group of players will never get deeper than round 2 in the playoffs.

Think he meant Lowry

I think it was a lot longer than that. This team has been thoroughly unimpressive for months now.

the playoffs is where it matters.
The regular season doesn't matter, especially in the weak east.
if you want to pretend the raps are anything more then a 2nd round loser, go ahead, but I'd rather they start working on fixing the boat.

The problem is the Raptors don't have a lot of value in trades to make it work. They will have a 1st rounder in the 20's maybe that guy can contribute but we won't know yet. They have a nice trio of DeRozan/Lowry/JV but will need free agency in order to fill holes. They could move Ross but another team would be taking a leap of faith trading value for him.

I did mean Lowry. Demar has been fantastic for the past couple months.

Lol sorry about that then... I formally rescind my first paragraph.

I don't even think Lowry needs to play at an all star level for this team to beat the Wiz, but he certainly needs to be better than he is. Who knows how banged up he is, but his performance is why I can't really blame Casey for the first two games.

He definitely needs to rethink the game plan, but I don't think any amount of strategy can overcome Lowry scoring single digits and flirting with foul trouble be the end of Q2

It is unlikely they win the series of course, we all knew this last game, perhaps even felt it during that disastrous 2nd and almost equally abysmal 3rd. I really hope they prolong the series to 6 games. Fans across the league will be pretty eager to heap abuse on this team if they get swept. Would be so humiliating. I think the Raptors draw more hatred and trolling from American fans than the Jays do (lone targets), for some inexplicable reason.

They have the Knicks/Nuggets pick. Only way that should lose value is if the Knicks somehow sign Gasol.

I've been watching these guys all season and have stuck by them. But if they lose tonight and then get swept I'll have lost all faith in this core like we all did with the Leafs. They have been looking bad for a while. BIG GAME TONIGHT

Raptors vs. Wizards Preview: Game 3

game3-web-playoffs.jpg

Game Day: Game 3, Raptors @ Wizards

The Toronto Raptors look to get their first win of their best-of-seven series against the Washington Wizards and avoid dropping to 0-3 (TV: Canada: TSN, US: ESPN 2, Radio: TSN 1050, 8 P.M. ET)
Projected Starting Lineups:

Raptors: Kyle Lowry (G), DeMar DeRozan (G), Terrence Ross (F), Tyler Hansbrough (F), Jonas Valanciunas (C)

Wizards: John Wall (G), Bradley Beal (G) Paul Pierce (F) Nene Hilario (F), Marcin Gortat (C)

Game Notes

- With the series shifting to Washington, the need for a win has increased dramatically. Patrick Patterson and Kyle Lowry each called Game 3 a must-win when speaking with the media prior to flying to DC On Thursday afternoon.

“Going down 3-0 would be very disheartening,†Lowry said. “One win. That’s what we’ve got to focus on. One win, one game, one possession at at time.â€

Patterson shrugged off criticisms from the outside and said the team is focused on the group within the locker room. He pointed to last year’s run to the playoffs as proof of why the team needs to worry about each other and not outside opinions.

“Honestly, we couldn’t care less what other people say about us,†Patterson said. “Whether it's fans, whether it's critics, reporters, analysts, it doesn't matter. Had we worried about that, we wouldn't be in the position we are now, especially last year where everyone was doubting us and we were able to turn things around. For us, we understand we're pretty much playing with our backs against the wall. Game 3 is basically a game that we have. Plain and simple, black and white, we cannot lose Game 3.â€

- After giving up a 26-point, 17-assist game to John Wall and a 28-point effort to Bradley Beal in Game 2, the Raptors hope to be able to avoid a repeat performance from Washington’s dynamic backcourt in Game 3. Keeping Lowry on the floor and out of foul trouble remains a priority for Toronto.

- Much was made of Beal’s trash talking in Game 2. Beyond the conversation on court, Beal had more words during a halftime interview where he said the Raptors “think we’re punks.†Toronto brushed off questions about the level of talking on the court during the series against the Wizards.

“That's all competition,†Patterson said. “That's all the game of basketball. Whether it's playoffs, whether it's preseason, whether it's a regular season game, whether it's going up against your rival opponent, there's always trash talking, there's always explicit language, there's always pushing and shoving. There's always a physical nature of the game. It's just the competitive part of the game.â€

- Dwane Casey said he doesn’t have a problem with guys talking if that’s what they do to get themselves going. As his team looks to get into the win column in the series, he’s concerned more with how his players carry themselves rather than what they’re saying while they’re on the floor.

“We've got to go out and play with supreme confidence and have that swag on the court,†Casey said. “We haven't had trouble doing that throughout the year so we've got to get to that. Yeah, they hit us, they punched us but we're not out. It's two games.â€

- Casey referenced his time as an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks when the Mavs lost two in a row in the postseason and the veteran players on the team didn’t get rattled. He’s hoping that as his team plays with urgency in Washington, they will also be able to execute their game plan.

"You've got to have that type of confidence, that type of belief [where] when everything else and everybody is [thinking its] doomsday and all that, it's basketball†Casey said. âœYou've got to have that belief, no matter what it is, that you're going to get the job done.â€

Agreed completely. If they win tonight, it's a new series.

Sorry guys, I didn't even know you had a Raps thread, I would have been on here much more!

They also have a big asset in NY's 2016 first rounder that they got for Bargnani. That's a huge piece they could use in a trade.

2015 first round pick
two 2016 first round picks
T. Ross
salary cap space

Raptors have enough to get a big piece in the summer.

They're only allowed to move 2 of those picks. Like I said a GM would be making a leap of faith with Ross. They had these same pieces available last offseason and it didn't amount to much.

How do you know Ujiri was open to really moving them. I didn't hear or read anything that involved us moving any of our picks? This summer will be differently however..it has to be

You know what they say, desperate teams are dangerous. I'm thinking the Raps pull out a win. Not impressed with the Wiz.

But if we do get swept, I really hope we get an elite talent in 2016, and try to grab Aldridge. Defence is huge in the playoffs. Masai will probably make a blockbuster trade.

Btw, Washington vs Atlanta.... I wonder who wins.

We could've had Aldridge 9 years ago if BC wasn't a moron picking Primo Pasta :shakehead. He'd be the perfect fit, even if his defense sucks. But no way the Blazers let him go.

As far as this offseason goes, the only realistic thing I could see is offer sheeting Khris Middleton to fill the hole at the 3 spot, but Milwaukee would likely match. He's just too good. Would be a perfect get to move Ross to being the backup 2, where he should be, which means we'd let Lou go, which I'm fine with. Draymond Green would be a nice get as well (especially if we use him exclusively as a 4), but the Warriors would likely even match a max with how important he is, especially on the defensive end.

I agree with Ross being bench player, but keeping him over Lou? Not sure I like that unless Lou prices himself out

He wants out and test free agency. Perfect opportunity. Also feel we should sign more veteran guys next season. 2016 is gonna be a new era. I don't want a full rebuild, I want Masai to make this team better defensively.
