incredibly bushleague not to have a brand ready but what else do you expect from the nhl
No bush league would be rushing a name just to capitalize on the current buzz (pun intended) I get the feeling that the type of people that would bother to complain about no name would also be the same ones complaining if they did announce a name.

I mean I thought the Kraken name was wack but it was far preferable to calling them just "Seattle"

Seattle had like 5 years to get their branding in order. You are aware Utah has been a thing for like two months right? Are you not aware of the scope of branding a team and the ramifications financially if done wrong?
You have it completely backwards on what's bush league and what isn't

Speculation is it has to do with vendor contracts. Like Fanatics. They likely have a drop dead date for branding changes. They had enough time to get a simple UTHC design to them. But not enough time fully flesh out a brand. If that’s true it is understandable and logical and unavoidable.

This. I’ll also add that new franchises don’t typically rush into decisions like names/branding until they do their due diligence. They have teams of legal that go through everything with a fine toothed comb in hopes of facilitating a clear path to next steps- in Utah’s case Team name and identity. Then from there, logo/jersey concepts and color palettes. Chances are, they already have a field of top names picked out and are making sure there are no issues with other teams/organizations that share those names. And in the cases where there are team name conflicts, they’re likely working out issues in the background.

As an example in 1991, Wayne Huizenga - then owner of the new expansion NHL team in Miami- had to purchase the rights to use “Florida Panthers” since that name was already owned by a group who were going to use it for an expansion MLB team they were trying to bring to Tampa Bay. It’s a good thing too since Huizenga supposedly wanted to name the new hockey team the Florida Blockbusters- after one of his businesses - Blockbuster Video. It got as far as logo concepts. The NHL said no.

Could you imagine? This upcoming Cup Final could have been Edmonton Oilers vs Florida Blockbusters 🙀

TLDR; Utah has to take their time so they can hopefully avoid a mistake.

It’s Venom or Outlaws for me…by far.

Just a big fat no to the HC and Blizzard.

I’m not at a fan or Yeti or singular “Mammoth” but those seem to be the most popular online right now.

Salt Lake ______ would have been a much better formula imo.

It's just more interesting, unique and rolls off the tongue better than Utah ________.

At least it's not "Utah Outlaw". I'm not sure why there can be only one Mammoth or Yeti but they get to have a posse of bank robbers...
You only need one Mammoth. They are enormous creatures. Who is going to stop even one of them? A bunch of Maple Leafs? A penguin? A duck?

I dont get the angst over the name so much. Mighty Ducks is arguably the worst name ever. Lots of names on their own are iffy. It is the logo design and colours that make it.

What do you recommend as a name?

Edit: Serious question, I see this posted a lot with no "this would be better" suggestions and it feels like no name would be good

I thought Yetis, Mountaineers, Glaciers, Fury, and Outlaws all sounded ok. I honestly don’t know though. None really clicked for me as a definite clear choice aside from maybe Yetis (which wasn’t even a choice because they insist on doing the singular thing for so many names). I just know you can’t get much worse than Utah Hockey Club, even if you tried

The ironic thing is Anaheim switched to the Ducks and bland black jerseys because it sounded “less cheesy” and now that Gen Xers and Millenials are in charge, all we want is to have the “Mighty Ducks” back complete with resplendent 90’s teal and eggplant colors.

I'm sticking with Mammoth but as long as it's not Yetis or HC. HC sounds to much European format. Thought Yeti were PNW folklore. Venom sounds like roller hockey name or minor league. I would prefer bee related but it is what it is. Mammoth would be more family friendly but Outlaws has a ring to it.

100% just always curious what people like/don't like. I hate Yeti but love Swarm as an example. In the end, you will never please everyone

It'll be a travesty if its anything but Yeti. The logo and jerseys would have such potential.
