You've got a point but I personally don't like most of these other names either lol.

I think these names are the kind of names that the average kid designing their own team with crayons would come up with, hence why they're corny. I find Outlaws to be lame and childish but I have to admit that the historical significance could help it grow on me if that was the chosen name.
I like it. I picture a black and tan/brown color scheme, and maybe a silhouette style outlaw on horseback in front of a mesa(s).

Might as well throw this here as well, quick MS paint thought experiment on how you might use those colors with the non-wintery names like Venom- use the black to put a strong profile against the blue background.

(name is there for illustration purposes more than anything else)

Outlaws and HC are the only non-corny sounding ones. The rest all sound like semi-pro arena football team names. So many non-plurals lol the owner or people he listens to must think the non-plural thing is so cool and unique and hip. Hint: it isn’t 😂

Outlaws is arguably the most corny(or heck even the word cringe comes to mind) I ever saw in relation to a sports team.

How is Outlaws any different than Raiders, Warriors, Cowboys, Bandits, Buccaneers, Golden Knights, Braves, Pirates, Rangers, Patriots, Vikings, Guardians (🤮), Commanders (🤮), Senators?

Outlaws were an actual historical figure/archtype of the American Frontier/Old West, of which Utah was a major part. The name actually has some historical significance, unlike many of the other franchises I named above.
Again, how?? There are way worse - Rebels, Rough Riders, Rough Necks, in addition to the ones named in my post above, and nobody bats an eye at them.

How is an actual historical figure/archetype related to Utah’s past corny? Or any worse than the dozen or so similarly named major sports franchises, especially when many of those ones don’t even have any historical ties.

You know outlaws were an actual type of person ubiquitous in the Old West, right? We aren’t talking about the modern meaning of “bad ass” or however the term is used today.

Only because it's new.

To begin with it's hard not thinking of the motorcycle club when hearing it, that in itself is bad enough for me but it's also a silly name.

Yes I do know that but I don't see how that type of person, present or back then, is someone to be celebrated. Also of course the fact that the name is used by a MC gang is abit unfortunate.

Every name is a silly name.

I'd be interested in hearing the criteria for "non silly" names.

I feel like you really aren't that sincere but since you asked. Something that got local connection without trying to be over the top edgy. Adding to that if something which should in general be accepted as more or less downright despicable is what you can come up with then maybe it's better to just try finding something else. In more broad terms I don't think names in general are silly since it's a good way of differentiating between both people and subjects. That said there are, of course, ugly ones.

Anyway I very much doubt my opinion on the subject will change the outcome, they can call themselves whatever they wan't but we are all allowed to have opinions on it. I respect your, quite weird, opinion I just don't agree with it.

This is what they killed the Kachina for.
I mean I’m unhappy the Coyotes moved, they were my second team and the Kachina rocks.

But we should probably stop judging the Utah branding based on a generic logo that the franchise has stated time and time again is simply a placeholder so they can do right by their new fanbase and not actually rush into some half-baked identity.

Can we have a sticky here in all caps: THIS IS TEMPORARY AND NOT THE ACTUAL TEAM LOGO AND IDENTITY.

Well, the crime connotations are another matter entirely. I was only talking about the “corny” part because that’s what you said initially.

But on the crime connotations avenue, I don’t see how Outlaws would be any different than Pirates, Buccaneers, Raiders, or even Vikings. All of those historically are associated with less than wholesome activities.

I actually am serious, because if I think if you scrutinize existing names as much as new names, there really isn't any difference. The only difference is being used to them. And this is all sports, not just hockey.
