Utah Mammoth new name for Utah HC?

There is an old ghost town in Utah called Mammoth, I think that may be part of the reason.
I don't get the connection. There are dozens of ghost towns in Utah. Some with very stupid names.

The Utah Old Irontown has a nice ring to it.

Hopefully when they actually unveil everything they surprise with a different color scheme, instead of this forgettable tone of blue and black, and a different name.

I'm literally only talking about it possibly being a reason to leave off the S, not the entire name.

Outlaws is such a cool name with an immediate attachment to the wild west which fits the area pretty well and imo is the most interesting and badass period of America.

The only reason I can think why they passed on it was the colour scheme doesn't scream outlaw? Wild west colours for me would be gold, black, silver and sandy brown?
Mammoth fits very well with the current colour scheme.
Outlaws is definitely an ECHL tier name.

I loved Wild name when I saw it.

And now after 20 years its even greater name, for most mid, average and unasumming team in league.
To me...worst name in pro sports. Sounds like a lower-level minor league single-A baseball team. Or WNBA team name. Like Fury or something.

That's because it is.

But the Outlaws are a PLL team, so either way.

Well I’ll be damned. Must have been a subconcious memory from when my city had a lacrosse team lol.

On a slightly different but related subject: I can already see Delta Center being an absolute madhouse when Utah make the playoffs. For only being able to seat 11,000-ish fans (for now), Delta Center was pretty loud for the inaugural season.

And from what I understand it’s known as one of the loudest playoffs arenas in the NBA?

I think it’s cool. Tons of possibilities for the logo. They could probably have mammoth tusks that form a U. Mascot will probably be great too

I have a lifetime boycott of Yeti going forward after that copyright BS, which was also bad business imo. Tons of alternatives and zero switching costs. Feel my wrath overpriced coolers and cups!

It’s fine, but Raptors was always the best choice.
The big 4 North American leagues are no longer going to copy another's team name. Last were the Panthers in the mid 90's. Been 30 years. Cardinals, Giants were at one point in the same city. Aside from them it's the Rangers, Jets, and Kings.

Seattle likely passed on going back to the Metropolitans as a team name because most would have shortened it to Mets, like MLB team.

I think MLB Washington team could have taken Senators as well but opted not to.

It's the same nickname as the NLL team in Colorado, but that's not a well known sport.

Mammoth is like Moose, it's fine, but will a bit odd that there is no S like most clubs.
