No they should not have. That type of name should be reserved for one of the first teams in the league, not the 32nd. They’re not important enough to be the one called "Hockey Club"
I don't dislike the name, if this is what it ends up being, although I'd have preferred Outlaws.
The only (minor) issue I have with it is the lack of pluralization for whatever reason.

lolwut? "*insert a sport* club" isn't a prestigious name in any way. It's very generic in the world of sports. Very unique in North American professional sports though.

when I looked earlier I guess I only saw the results of the Emperor penguin... but looking closer, they can swi mabout the same speed as a elephant can run which is about 25mph or 40kmph

Sometimes these little arenas make a lot of noise. There's nowhere for the sound to go.
Barclays Center is a relatively compact little building and the Liberty absolutely shake that place. The Nets would too, but you know, they're usually not cheering at the Nets game.

I hear you. It's easy to like them right now while both teams suck/are on the rise. I'm not sure I'll be able to hate them the same way as before because they keep drafting players I really like.

Ok, so why on Earth would they name the team the "Utah Mammoth" instead of "Utah Mammoths"? The plural of Mammoth is Mammoths. This is not a situation like "deer" or "moose" where the plural form is the same. Are they referring to the adjective "mammoth"? I don't think so.
The Kraken were able to get away with it because although the "Krakens" would have made more sense grammatically, "The Kraken" is a famous mythical beast that is almost always referred to as a singular creature. This is NOT the case for "Mammoth".
The only other reason I can think of is that words ending in "ths" are more difficult to say and don't easily flow off the tongue, but in that case...just choose a different name that isn't "Outlaws"....
