Utah Hockey Club down to final 3 names: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Wasatch

Other issue with Wasatch is pronunciation. Just looked it up and found 3 different ways to pronounce it in 3 YouTube videos. How are you supposed to market a team like that?

Over the next four UHC home games, starting with Utah’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, patrons attending games at the Delta Center will be allowed to go up to iPad kiosks stationed around the arena and cast their votes on which identity they like most. Fans will be exposed to two potential logos along with the three names. For the Mammoth, the extinct figure will be highlighted on the crest, while Utah HC and Wasatch both have similar logos featuring a mythical snow creature in the form of a yeti.

Continuing with Hockey Club on the short list? Seriously? This is not English soccer. Just call them Utah No Names and be done with it?

Could always do Utah HC and have the Yeti as a logo or shoulder patch. None of the other options seem all that appealing.

Hockey Club is better than any other remaining option.
 Utah Puck Sticks would be better than that - and its not good.

Is there nothing associated with Utah that would make a better name than HC? That is like admitting you couldn't come up with any decent name.

Not really the point but imo calling the team Utah rather than Salt Lake is the original sin. I feel there's plenty of good options for short nicknames that roll of the tongue when paired with SL (Salt Lake Sting, Salt Lake Swarm, Salt Lake Bees just to keep it to that theme) due to the rhythm of it. Utah on the other hand makes everything feel clumsy. Not sure why that is, maybe because it starts with a vowel.

If it's really down to these three they'll probably go with Mammoth, which sucks imo. Wasatch is at least unique so I don't hate it, but I'd lean towards keeping it HC. You don't need some bullshit name for the sake of having one, Utah can build its brand in other ways. They definitely have to do something about those amateur hour jerseys though. That is worrisome for their big picture creativity as an organization to half-ass a jersey so badly.

Some of the most iconic teams in sports don't need names, I don't see why this is any different. Come on....Mammoth?

Mammoth is decent although I would prefer 'Mammoths'

I really hope it isn't 'Hockey Club'

Wasatch is just a weird pick and would confuse a lot of people

I tend to agree that Salt Lake or SLC (SLC Punk anyone?) sounds better but I just wonder if they wanted to be more broadly representative one of the fastest growing states on n the country, much of which is occurring outside the immediately “SLC” defined area - like in Utah County and along the entire Wasatch front.

Much like the Phoenix Coyotes rebranded as the Arizona Coyotes when that area was undergoing its population explosion.

Rightly or wrongly, there’s an idea of more of a regional marketing inclusivity to “Utah” over “Salt Lake City”.
