Utah Hockey Club down to final 3 names: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Wasatch

I suppose the issue with UTC is that it's very adult. It'd be pretty hard to get kids into it. I remember when the Sharks got in. They got popular on the name and logo alone. I think I got into them for that reason as a 10 year old or whatever

Who cares if Wasatch is too obscure for some rando in New York or Örnsköldsvik, that’s precisely why I think it’s kind of interesting. Its ties together local geography and is a nod to the native peoples as well.

It is kind of a nebulous nickname but I’d say it offers some flexibility in the branding potential. Obviously you have the tie in with the mountains but also the Shoshoni translation to “blue herron” which can riff off the blue coloring already established and the species of herron (bird) native to the area that can lend more to the identity package and mascot.

I really, really like it. Lots of potential IMO.

I'm not sure names like Rangers, Canadians, Leafs, Oilers, Stars, Capitals, Redwings, and so on are good for kids.

I like it cause I never heard of the mountain range.

Let’s be real here. It never truly mattered what they picked. Team identity branding is like peak 21st Century internet outrage fuel.

At the end of the day, if the majority of locals want something to represent them, thats all that matters.

The only reason 90% of team nicknames annd brands are not endlessly ridiculed is because we are used to them.

Lot of Panthers fans scattered around the continent for that very reason.

Honestly? At that point just keep Hockey Club.

It's kind of unique in its own way instead of just being generic mountain/snow related name #34.

Only thing i would suggest is if you're going to go this way, at least design more of a logo than just the circle.

You obviously know nothing about marketing. Wasatch would be the worst name in sports.
