Utah Hockey Club down to final 3 names: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Outlaws (upd: Wasatch already nixed)

If Yeti got turned down because of the cooler, Mammoth should get turned down because of the professional lacrosse team based in Colorado. Wouldn't want fans to get confused about which sport they are watching.

lol different sports use similar names of other sports all the time. Ahem NYR and Texas rangers and yet that oksy but a Utah hockey team can't use Mammoth cause of a Lacrosse team? Thats not how trademarks work. You can't trademark a word genetically.

Not really. It's a lot easier to come to terms with the lacrosse team than Yeti coolers because whatever money Utah offers for the name would probably mean a lot.

HC would be a let down and boring. Imagine doing a 1-year contest "to get it right" and settle for the temp palceholder?

Need to try-on Mammoth and Wasatch. What would it look like? would Mammoth have like a copper/bronze color to it? Mascot would prob be an elephant named Wooly. Would Wasatch be white/purple/powder blue?

They need a third color regardless what they pick.
Their colorway is like ambien and lifeless. A good logo can bring the current colors to life, but current Utah HC is bleh.

The Colorado Mammoth are owned by Stan Kroenke (also owns the LA Rams, Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids, Arsenal), they're not hurting for cash. They've been in the market over two decades, they're not going to change it.
