It's pointless to act like one specific consumer has any bearing on society as a whole. Besides, there's no such thing as ethical consumption.

The fault lies solely on the company commercializing the name.

It's the same general idea as the issue of recycling. Trying to offload responsibility on the consumers is to ignore the big picture, where the problem is caused by the companies that are producing these billions of plastic bottles.
And what is wrong with the company commercializing a name? I know we are all anti /r/HailCorporate here and f*** the big businesses amirite but pray tell how is Jeep wrong for naming their product Cherokee

Because Cherokee is a cool word and it's decidedly less cool when a shitty SUV brand uses it as the name for their shitty SUV.

Call it the Jeep Bazooper and it would sell exactly the same without trivializing a word that already exists and has a meaning.

I have no reason to be offended by Cherokee, but I still dislike a brand name commercializing a word they have absolutely no claim to.

Chicago didn't have any claim to the Black Hawk tribe. They just took the name not out of thievery but tribute. Why does everything have to be theft to you people. "Cultural appropriation" doesn't exist dummies

"WHITE MAN IS STEALING KOREAN CULTURE"

Whiteman is NOT stealing Korean culture white man is just making gochujang burgers

CULTURAL APPROPRIATION

ONLY KOREANS CAN MAKE KOREAN FOOD

f*** society is so STUPID and IGNORANT

It just makes me so mad because the woke cancel culture mob is against racism but will use the race card so fast when it comes to anything they disagree with. Who is the real person being racist?

American chain makes Korean food

"They cannot make Korean food. They are American. That's racist"

Again it goes to what we were talking about earlier about the expanded scope of what is considered racist. Racist used to be just calling people slurs or marginalizing people's culture. Now "racist" is making food that doesn't adhere to your race. Why jump to the race card so fast?

Rick Bayless is "racist" for making Mexican food at Frontera Grill and only Mexicans should be making Mexican food.

Do you know how stupid that sounds?

Making wild claims does not mean your claims are in any way true, Mr Trump

What is there not to understand?

Jeep took the Cherokee name, commercialized it, and now own the trademark to it.
And why does this have to be a nefarious angle? Why do you make it sound like it was a greedy fat cat business decision? People name shit after Native American tribes all the time. It is not insulting.

You are aware there is a helicopter called the AH-64 Apache right? Where's the outrage mob?

In the old days when people "got offended" there wasn't the internet to amplify their voice and the party doing the "offending" didn't really care. In those days you got strongly worded letters which you just threw away in the trash because it sounded like it was writ by some crazy crackpot.

These brands were determined through marketing studies and focus groups (in contemporary modern history). Do you really think a business would use an offensive name as it's marketing slogan?

People are too soft these days. That was the whole theme of Cobra Kai, to stop being soft and stop giving a f*** whatever people thought about cancel culture or wokeness.

"You cannot say this."

"You cannot do that."

Who cares

Oh please, it's a recognizable name that they could trademark without issue. You know damn well it was a business decision before they started making money off of the name.

You are aware there is a helicopter called the AH-64 Apache right? Where's the outrage mob?

You realize the existing of more than one offensive name doesn't invalidate other offensive names, right?
