The problem with analytics is you need to have context in order to use the numbers. You cannot blindly apply them without understanding the meaning behind them. It is like me saying "well the Caps 5v5 had Corsi PDO of .5021" what does that mean?

Even if you did understand the meaning of them it does not account for the human factor or puck luck. Hockey is a random game. The analytics won't change that. They are just predictions and models.

I'm not saying they're useless. @LarryFisherman will tell you everyone in IT uses big data and analytics. Modeling said big data and data points is big business these days. But the projections are not perfect. And they should be taken into context. That is all I'm saying, not to blindly adhere to them like Dubas / Zaide.

Yeah yeah, intangibles and all that shit.

Trying to moneyball hockey is obviously a bad idea

You can moneyball baseball because it is filled with nerd stats and numbers. Hockey and football, not so much.

when habs made playoffs, still got eliminated, and missed out on their shot to draft the hometown kid

It more has to do with how baseball is played. There is a limited number of outcomes to each at-bat and the pitcher vs batter dynamic makes it easy to analyze.

Football has segmented gameplay that is similar to baseball, but there are far more variables involved with 22 men on the field, and the near infinite possibility of outcomes

All of the math and analytics involved in baseball is quite interesting.

It's such a shame that most baseball commentators are f***ing awful at talking about the game

A guy comes up to bat, the commentator should tell us what kind of pitch he's looking for, while telling us what kind of pitches and aiming the pitcher will use.

No, instead we have to hear some f***ing boomer complain about Starbucks

"Baseball is like a game of chess"

Well, then describe what's happening beyond what we can plainly see.

You're a commentator, offer some kind of insight on the god damn game

This is just a shittier version of the ones that have been done for Taker and Jericho.

Changing your gimmick doesn't make you a compelling character, and Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton are the perfect examples of that.

Ironically, Drew undergoes the biggest change, mostly because he escaped WWE creative for a while

They could do one with John Cena, where they just change the color of his shirt and hat.

It would still be more interesting than anything Bray Wyatt has ever done

Granted, it is wholly unfair to compare the gimmicks of someone like Sting, who wrestled in 4 different decades, to any wrestler nowadays.

The business changed a lot in the 80s and 90s, and he's a product of those changing times.

The business has not changed a lot since 2001, once the WWE no longer had any competition
