Hard coaching only benefits the coach. The players work harder and get burned out sooner while the coach gets a whole new class of recruits next year, so he really doesn't care about any negative long-term effects on his players.

Saying canned phrases like "It builds character" and "It prepares you for real life" is just more manipulative bullshit, trying to shame and demean anyone who disagrees with that style of coaching

Coach K is one of the most prestigious and respected coaches of all time, so comparing him to your average high school PE teacher/football coach is a little disingenuous
