Tons of reasons. Linux is a really good baseline with tons of flavors for everyday use. No technical reason or expertise necessary.I asked because there's not really any reason other than being a programmer to install Linux distributions for every day use. Like, what is he even going to use it for.

Microsoft and windows is pretty rough these days, both from a ux and data perspective. It's awesome to have real choices now.
Ubuntu is a fantastic daily for general pop. I don't love canonical but they are bringing it to the people and that's commendable.
