NOBODY THOUGHT ANY NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT INDIAN PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE OF A WHITE MAN DOING AN INDIAN VOICE

I love how you say such a definitive statement with ZERO PROOF.

You didn't receive any of the negativity, so who the f*** are you to say that no one experienced any negativity because of a character?

Do you believe a character on TV can have a negative influence how people perceive an entire race of people?

If you say no, you're f***ing naive.

I'm tempted to reference a hilarious meme but it's too political for these forums

It did seem like a stupid thing for him to say though.

Yes, but Apu didn't negatively influence anyone. He was a hard working Indian immigrant who made his fortune in this country. That's not a negative stereotype.

As the Nuggets celebrate their first NBA title, LeBron James has still been relevant, at least to Denver coach Michael Malone.

In a Wednesday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Malone appeared to poke fun at the Lakers’ star when he attempted to depict James’s consideration to retire from the NBA after the Nuggets’ sweep of the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.

“Speaking of the Lakers, I just want you guys to know this is breaking news—I’m thinking about retiring. Only kidding, only kidding,” Malone said on the show.

There you go again, making definitive statements with absolutely no proof beyond your pre-conceived notions.

Indians becoming associated with being convenience store owners is an easy stereotype to recognize. Same with the "thank you come again" line.

and this isn't aimed at you in particular but too many people have too much guilt and feel the need to tag team or join a WWE stable so to speak that they have no part of

it happened with native american imagery

THE REDSKINS ARE OFFENSIVE. I DON'T LIKE IT.

WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS WRONG!

- said the white person who was "offended" and stricken with a serious case of "guilt"

And then these jabronis "cancelled" Redskins and Indians and now they want to cancel Braves and Chiefs and Blackhawks. People like @Pink Mist get all uppity like "IT IS WRONG TO CALL THEM THE BRAVES OR CHIEFS. THE BLACKHAWKS ARE VERY OFFENSIVE. THE FIRST NATIONS DON'T LIKE IT"

WHO SAID THE FIRST NATIONS DON'T LIKE IT

THEY DON'T f***ING CARE

THEY HAVE MORE PRESSING ISSUES LIKE POVERTY AND ALCOHOLISM AND UNEMPLOYMENT TO DEAL WITH ISSUES LIKE THE NAME AND LOGO OF A SPORTSBALL TEAM

Shane Gillis makes fun of Asians

Society: "HOW DARE HE"

The same society that blamed Asians for covid and frequently attacks them. Like, can we get some of that sympathy from the white people too? Hook a brotha up.

All I'm saying. And by the way, most Asians didn't care about what Shane Gillis said. The Rock literally imitated Chinese on WWE and nobody gave a shit.

We got other stuff to worry about. Nerd shit like grades and math.

I did not say that.

If someone says Apu negatively affected their life and your response is "No it didn't", then you're a f***ing asshole.

This was the entire crux of my initial post, people don't want to be open-minded to the mere possibility that a well-meaning character could have problematic aspects.

People jump to Apu's defense and want to deny other people's life experiences as if they wrote the f***ing show and are personally being attacked.

"Apu is wrong because he perpetuates an indian store owner stereotype"

yeah okay?

PS that stereotype is not accurate anymore. Indians hold jobs in all lines of work.

"You can't have a Chinese person on The Simpsons. He owns a chinese food restaurant. That is WRONG! THAT IS NOT WOKE!"

I did not say that.

And that's your excuse to just throw your hands up and do nothing?

As a society, should we not seek to have some empathy and limit the negative impacts we have on other people?

Obviously nothing is going to change because people are assholes, but should we not at least try to make society better for everyone involved?

Then nothing would exist in society if we listened to everyone that was offended

Also a reminder they removed apu completely they didn't even recast him to an Indian voice actor

But being a hard working American is so offensive

in some cases cancel culture is appropriate, don't know anyone advocating for pat fitzgerald to retain his position at NW

but in most cases it is not warranted

if you do something stupid, you should face consequences. that was always the argument when LOS would complain about cancel culture.

"Well a shit like Bob Huggins doesn't deserve to coach WVU. Say stupid shit, get canned."

The issue is that Apu and other cancelled folk never said anything offensive but were rather singled out because a few people had a bad experience. Sorry for them but that doesn't mean Apu should bear the brunt of cancel culture. It's sad he doesn't exist on the Simpsons anymore.

"Why do you care. You don't watch."

I don't watch the newer seasons but the fact he's not there is wrong

Al Franken rubbed people the wrong way, did his job moderately well, and was forced to quit his job because a few people got upset. Is that right?

Another definitive statement that's feels over reals.

Listening to the people who are offended doesn't mean that we're letting them dictate how society is run. Just because some people are overly sensitive or opportunistic doesn't mean we should pre-emptively ignore everyone who gets offended.

But being a hard working American is so offensive

Yet again, you're focusing on the positives, ignoring any potential negatives, and then saying "I don't know what everyone is bitching about"

a few people don't like "Bluey" but it doesn't mean he should lose his job

"THINK OF THE PEOPLE WHO'S FEELINGS WERE HURT WHEN HE TOOK ON THE CRUISE INDUSTRY FOR UNSAFE PRACTICES"

not even his ardent enemies on this forum want him to quit his position because of that

Another definitive statement with no proof.

You act like Apu wasn't canned for an unfair reason

We used to have dialogue and discussion. We didn't have corporations just give in and remove characters just because a few people were hurt.

f***, that documentary is so bad. "The problem with Apu" "It's an issue because people made shitty Indian accents to me at school." Yes, people are shit especially in grade school. Just ignore it.

"BUT APU IS THE MAIN CENTERPIECE OF THAT STEREOTYPE AND IT'S BAD"
