"If you bought tickets, you could have won."

I can't win the jackpot unless someone wins the jackpot, and the chances of anyone winning is better than my individual chances of winning.

Therefore, I only want to be part of draws where someone wins the jackpot, as my chances of winning would go from the 1 in 292 million odds of winning the jackpot to a 1 in 48 million chance that, out of all tickets sold, my ticket is the winning ticket.

To imply that I could have won if I had just bought a ticket is to grossly misunderstand the basic concept of probability.

My man Greeny, who is taking his well-earned 3rd week of summer vacation, is getting blistered on Twitter for not yet addressing the issues with his alma mater. :m-frown: Hopefully he will address it upon his triumphant return to Get Up on Monday. But if he doesn't I totally understand, because his son Stevie is currently a student there so he can't risk the administration taking it out on Stevie if he dares go rogue.

In the dialogue on the way to the boat docks, Luis, Armando, and Henrique might mention the summer of 1999 and how hot it was. This is analogous to the real life New York City heat wave that occurred between July and August of 1999.

There is also a slight "overlap" at one point in the dialogue, where they mention their affairs with a librarian girl. The dialogues that overlap are "f***ed the glasses right off the nose" and "Hu hu hu hu. I sure did."

"Apu is a working man who supports his family of 8 kids and is a literal pillar of the community."

Pisses me off so much when people act like obtuse jackasses in regards to Apu.

"If we only focus on the positives, we can see he's not problematic", is the thought process of the people who would never be affected by the problematic aspects of the character.

f***'s sake, people, just have the smallest amount of empathy and maybe you'll realize how a well-meaning character can result in negative stereotypes that would make people resent said character.

gimme that nerdy ass chica

The problem with this argument is that there were many other stereotypes that nobody did shit about

imagine wanting to cancel apu

Haha Fat Tony is an Italian stereotype. Nobody did shit about him.

"He portrays Italians in a negative light."

What about the local constable? "He portrays all cops as pigs"

Even Bumblebee man.

Also thanks to a new hipster candy place in ze mall that just opened, I got to scratch another soda off my “Sodas I Want/Must Try” list last night. :yo: :yo:

So rather than exploring how those other stereotypes could also do harm, your solution is to just eschew the conversation entirely?

How incredibly short-sighted.
being hurt over hank azaria's apu impression lmao

they did apu dirty

"BUT IT WAS HURTFUL TOWARDS PEOPLE"

TOWARDS WHO

DON'T TELL ME ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY

I KNOW THE DOCUMENTARY

NOBODY THOUGHT ANY NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT INDIAN PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE OF A WHITE MAN DOING AN INDIAN VOICE

AND THEN EVERYONE IS SUPPOSED TO GET ALL UPPITY OVER IT

LIKE JENNY SLATE LIKE "I'M A WHITE WOMAN I CAN'T VOICE THIS CHARACTER ANYMORE SHE AIN'T WHITE"

man

don't get me started

Didn’t they cancel him?? :dunno:
they f***ing did. they don't have the balls to stick with him. like several weeks before azaria said he would stop the apu voice they mocked the outrage in an episode

they gave in to mob justice
