I think some success with Slovenia could actually help springboard his motivation with the Kings.

I was pretty happy with their performance today, pretty cool to see em' make history.

I don't know. I hope so. I just want him to play his best when he comes back. I just feel like maybe losing will get him going. But maybe Winning will too, since the kings have been playing like crap, maybe a winning mood will get the team going when he comes.

That Voynov quote is too tiny to make me think it's in its full context. I think it's just some media guy trying to make something out of nothing. I'm willing to bet they asked him about how Quick plays and then used it to imply Quick was being deliberate with the net being knocked off.

If knocking the net off deliberately was actually Quick's style, we'd see it a lot more in the NHL. lol And he has no international style because he's only played two games.

I think people should give Voynov the benefit of a doubt here.

Edit: Missed someone's post with a full quote. That's pretty sad of Voynov to say. If that attitude carries over to the lockerroom, he can bet his ass that we'd be fighting over who gets to drive him to the airport. His value is not near Quick's.

I can't seem to find the full quote right now but I read the full paragraph of what he said earlier today (ill post it when I find it).

I'm the first one to call for the full facts and benefits of the doubts but this leaves little doubt as to what he said and meant.

Furthermore, the replay looks completely incidental. No doubt the Russians got hosed on the call but that's the way hockey goes sometimes. Kings and their fans should know this as well as anyone.

Yeah, I caught a bit of it in my edit and I'm quite disappointed. I'm sure emotions played into it, but that's just not something you wanna throw out there to the media dogs.

Lots can be lost in translation, he could've meant that Quick's style makes things like that happen because of how he pushes off aggressively in his side-to-side/post-to-post movement. Who know show it was interpreted by reporters. I don't believe Voynov's comments were malicious.

We won't really know unless he makes some sort of follow up statement if this hangs around.

“This question is to the referees: Was the net dislodged, and why it was dislodged? Why didn’t they notice it earlier?†asked defenseman Slava Voynov.

He knows Quick well, as his teammate with the Los Angeles Kings. Too well, maybe, because he said after the game that Quick may have dislodged the net on purpose.

“I can tell you myself, because I am his teammate and I play with him. It is in his style to do something like that. Yes,†he said. “The question is why wasn’t it noticed? That’s the question to the referees.â

Seems to me he's putting the blame on the refs for not communicating and not being observant, but even if Voynov meant it in the worst possible way I don't see what the big deal is.

Again, it could be semantics lost in translation. If you can can re-phrase that quote to "It is his style to cause something like that" then it changes the whole context of the answer. Is there actual audio? Anyone who speaks Russian can completely translate it? How was his tone? Angry? Calm? Finally, the best indicator is actual video so is there one out there?

Voynov is required to make Pro Russian statements while on the national team. I mean Putin was at the game FFS. It's ok for Voynov to say what he needs to when under duress.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that it's a translation thing, because you don't throw your teammate, [even if he's playing for another country] who has bailed your ass out all season long, under the bus like that.

well... first day back is gonna be awkward

My hockey IQ isn't on the high end, I try to only stir the pot with quips and not direct hockey related info, and i consider myself a little on the unbiased side.:dunno:

For instance, I just realized today why the moorings in NHL are neon yellow, Net dislodging saved our ass. Almost like that guy that blocked a goal in FIFA S.Africa with his hand, he wasn't a goalie.:phew:

No way was I implying you. I was referring to people who talk **** about Quick and Brown and follow it up with zero facts. Hey, if someone dislikes Quick, that's fine. I don't care. But when they say he's a below average goalie I laugh my ass off.

This I especially love. The point was awesome.

What I've been thinking.

Tonight's replay:

Tonight at 8/7c on NBC, relive overtime and the eight-round shootout from Team USA’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Russia in men’s hockey. Al Michaels, who called the “Miracle on Ice” in the 1980 Winter Games, and NBC Sports’ lead hockey play-by-play announcer Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, will join host Meredith Vieira to discuss the dramatic win, highlighted by forward T.J. Oshie, who scored on four of six shootout attempts, and goaltender Jonathan Quick.

Seems to me that is you take out the bolded, writer opinion, that he is not blaming Quick as much as saying that Quick plays a style that can cause it to happen

I guess I don't understand why voynov gets the benefit of the doubt and the journalist does not.

Because the journalist should not inject his/her opinion into the story. Voynov may have inferred Quick was cheating or it may have been talking about how Quick plays the game. The journalist is calling Quick a cheater. He should have reported the quote and let the readers decide instead of stating something as a fact that may not have been meant at all. Let Voynov put his foot into his mouth on his own.

Anyone know where I can find game stats from the game, you know TOI,hits etc? I've been digging around and can't seem to find anything yet.

Point taken, however what if the writer intentionally went out of his way to mention this not because he was trying to misconstrue what Voynov was saying but because he wanted to make sure everyone knew exactly what he was trying to say.

Hey Slava, hope you enjoy the cold in say... Edmonton?

Anywhere, really. Long Island?

Metallursk?

Actually, looking at it again, Voynpv is in a no win situation there and tries to slice it a little too fine between loyalty to the Kings (who, let's face it have been nothing but loyal to him), and loyal to his country, who, ask yourselves what the **** you would say when asked that in Sochi, with Putin watching... He tried to find the answer that satisfied everybody...

Shoulda said, "that's hockey."

This story is now picking up traction, just saw it on Yahoo sports. **** Voynov for tainting our win and now making the refs think twice about Quick. He better not get the Dustin Brown treatment now where everything he does is questioned. It was such an unprofessional quote and the worst part was that he made it seem like Quick pulls that stuff in L.A.

While I love the Olympics and Team USA, I care way more about the Kings. Voynov pissed on a franchise that is morally and finically supporting him. Uncool.
