He's gotta stop being a pimply-faced teenager and start being like two or three years older already. Someone should beat the crap out of him and tell him to stop being 19.

Gain 15-20 pounds of muscle.... Basically the regular boys to men growth spurt. It's not a skill or play issue, it's that he's still physically a boy.

He's going to end the season with about 70 points. But if he tears up the Worlds that will help a lot. He did alright last year, 8 points in 10 games for an 18 year old. He needs to at least do well this year and maybe help Canada get further than getting bounced out in the semis. That will go a long ways. I can remember in the 2003 Worlds the line of Maltby-Draper-Doan did well and helped us win gold. It was enough that Gretzky decided to take that entire line for the World Cup in 2004 although Maltby didn't play I don't think. I know for sure they like it when a player does well at the Worlds. It hurts a lot when a player turns it down if he's on the bubble. Jason Allison is a good example of this in the 2001 Worlds.

Also, beef up a bit in the offseason. Maybe train with Gary Roberts. I don't know, whatever. But he needs a strong start to the season as well. He isn't making a Centre position. That's too deep and we already move Point on the wing. But I can see him being a winger with a strong centre. This idea of him being a PP specialist is not good though. Canada had one power play in the final game, that's it. He needs to make the team on his own merit. And I think that is possible since it is a year away. Him or Celebrini, whoever seems to be more ready will make it. One, but probably not both.

He was terrible in the WC. He started out in the top 6 and was eventually demoted to the 4th line because he was such a liability. He piled up almost all of his points against weak opponents.

With his play style and shorter stature he needs to get into the 85+ point range at least and/or 35+ goal range for Canada to put him on the team IMO.

If he's below that that's tough given that he's not really a bottom 6 kind of fit but doesn't have the bigger tier numbers you would like to see from a top 6 guy and has little big game experience.

Right, but he was 18. I'll give him a lifeline for that one. To make Team Canada he does have to come out flying at the Worlds this year and then early next year.

crosby was better his rookie season than bedard is now and still didn't make team canada's 06 olympic team

Crosby should’ve made the team as he was the best player in the world in the 2nd half of his rookie season, but yeah Bedard isn’t really cut out for the team just yet. I think people exaggerate how much better he would be on a better team, doesn’t he have the same amount of goals as Ryan Donato or something?

Of course, I guess my point was when asked to play a responsible game he showed he was far from "okay", even for an 18 year old. It's not historically been that hard of a tournament for 18 year olds.

Skinner, Tavares, Stamkos, Duchene, Toews, Crosby, McDavid etc were all better for Canada at 18 in that tournament. Among recent Americans, Matthews, Gauthier, Hutson, Eichel, and Keller etc were all better at 18.

Paajarvi, Laine, Granlund, Kopitar, Kakko, Slafkovsky, Nemec....all these guys were better or more productive at 18.

The level of play really wasn't that high yet he still really struggled. He was mildly productive, but a huge liability.

15-20 pounds of muscle is a shit ton on a sub 6 foot frame, I mean shit it's a lot even for a 6'1, 6'2+ person. He would likely lose a considerable amount of speed putting on that much mass in a relatively short span of time.

He should aim for something more realistic like 6-8 pounds of lean muscle.

I think he makes it but it's because I also think he's going to get better , then again if team canada goes grit in the bottom 6 he won't make it
I believe teams will be allowed a 25 man roster thus 14F will get selected. In case someone goes down they will need to slot someone in whom they can trust.

More his 200ft games that needs improvement over his point totals. And cellibrini is ahead of him in that area. Not sure if Canada would take both of them. Maybe just 1.

Pace for 50/50 next year which seems unlikely, otherwise they're just gonna take some 25-35/35-45 guy that is extremely responsible in the defensive end.
