Unless this is some satirical commentary about the consistency about the DopS, this is an absurd thing to say.

initial point of contact was in the shoulder, he hit him through the body and also got the head. i literally just rewatched it

just rewinded it...

foot was on the ground, hit the shoulder first, definitely got some head but was through the body and feet didn't leave the ice. i know any touch to the head is a no no in international hockey. im talking purely hockey
Feet didn't leave the ice? Watch again. Also lol "any touch to the head" that was a lot worse than a simple touch to the head.

He made contact with the body with his elbow. The entirety of his shoulder connects with the face and that was the primary point of contact. This obfuscation of what happened, likely with troll intent I'm starting to gather, is beyond weak.

The team didn't cheap shot you. One player did. Would you try to punish and embarrass all of the other kids who did nothing wrong to you? I think that it's classy to show some restraint in that case. Also, it was a reward for the players on the team who had the least ice time in the game. That should matter more to a coach than making a defeated team feel even worse.

I would want them embarrassed to begin with. Play 60 minutes. Why should you feel bad for a terrible team that doesn't belong in a competitive game with you? Why do they deserve a participation trophy? The IIHF forces the big teams to face beer league teams like Austria and Germany who might have 4-5 players who don't get embarrassed on the same ice as the big countries. If anything today's games show us that we need to cut the top group by two spots.

And then when that cheap shot happens, the thought of letting up sends a terrible message to your team. Score another goal. Embarrass them further.

Surprised that Kaliyev made the team tbh. He’s got the stats but I just don’t see it. Maybe it’s his utilization but he just doesn’t seem to fit the team

i dont think cutting across the neutral zone admiring your pass in an 11-0 game thinking shit is sweet should be rewarded
No it should be punished viciously, eh?

And don't even start with what the primary point of contact was because no matter what the primary point was, the majority of the impact went to the head and that was either the very intention of the hit or something Wimmer made no effort to avoid.

Philipp Wimmer is one of those guys who couldn't skate for most of his career, and as he's gotten better at skating he's gotten better at the physical game, but he's also got to reign it in, as other guys I've seen in his situation, because he's starting to border on dirty, and that hit, perhaps partially fueled by frustration but that was extremely dirty.

Wimmer has always been super talented, but never able to put it together. Even tonight, I thought he was one of our best players on the ice prior to that really stupid hit. And we need big physical defensemen like him. But he has to cut that crap out. This is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience. And a good learning experience. And he's going to miss some of that because he did something he shouldn't have. I think he's lucky if he has any tournament left.

Agreed, there definitely needs to be a change.

Two pools of 4 is much better. #1 seeds gets a bye to the semis, #4 seeds play each other in relegation. Eliminates some of the ugly games and makes #1 seed worth something again, resulting in better round robin games. Less games though so i don't know if they'd go for it.

If you're not interested in watching, you don't have to. No one forces you to. I don't think tonight's games change anything or are any different than every game that every other elevator team played in the years prior, and if you had a problem with those then I'm sure you have a problem with it now. But its your life, you can go do with it whatever you want, you don't have to watch these "beer league teams." Most people are fine with the way things are. And if you're not, you don't need to change it for everyone else, you can just enjoy your life without a few extra games that other people will watch.

People say that other countries are getting better, but I don't really see it. If anything, I think countries like Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Switzerland are clearly getting worse. And maybe a Germany is in a good cycle where they are getting slightly better, but so what? They still give up 16 goals. If they had a full team they'd probably only give up 8, but it doesn't mean they would be competitive.

I think we are seeing the gap widen with the big five to everyone else. 10-15 years ago it might've been Canada, Russia, then a gap between the next three as the tiers. I think what we've seen is a consolidation of a big five that has coincided with more parity year to year among these big five. I think USA and Finland have clearly improved their hockey programs, but I also think we are now at the point where it will take a real upset for any of those five to lose a game to any other country. Do we even see 1 loss per tournament from the big five to a non big five country?

USA revenged on Austria for previous game.

That shitty 1st goal broke the game. Shows how Americans have not confidence. Respect for Austria anyways. Coach should have changed goalie whic his obvious.

Americans are typical like Canadians trying hard in the game which is totally won. Is it omething like... pride orr i dunno (''we are best'' and canadiands ''we best in hockey'') sorry for those stereotypes but looks like im right.

Why? This is such an arbitrary statement. Why does there "need" to be change?

If you don't think the gap is widening, I don't know what to tell you. We now have a situation where the same five teams every year are the only ones with any realistic chance of medaling. Very occasionally we might get an upset here or there by another country of one of these teams, but it's a five team race. The rest are playing not to get embarrassed when they play these big five countries.

And I also think there's also a gap between teams like Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, and the elevator countries. It's a smaller gap than the gap between the big five and these three, but I think these elevator teams are at such a low standard that I think we need to question whether they should be partaking in the same tournament. 27-2 today between two games makes a mockery of the competition, in my opinion.

I didn’t find that hit any worse than the Canadian hit from earlier today. Both made contact with the head, feel like Canadians hit was more deliberately to the head, where the AUS hit was more blind side than targeting the head.

Doesn’t look like he left his feet to me either. It looks like his right foot leaves the ground when he’s making a sharp turn into the hit, but is on the ground when the contact initiates. The right foot is almost useless in that scenario as well because he’s going to be have all his weight on his left leg when he delivers the hit there.

Obviously neither hit are clean, but I don’t think either are significantly worse than the other and don’t think either deserve a suspension

I actually missed the entire game.
Can somebody give me a rundown at how Caufield looked?
I know he had no points, but curious how he played.
