Thoughts:

--No Esche seems surprising. Miller, Anderson, and Quick are likely all fatigued having been workhorses for their teams, so I don't blame them for not playing

Esche is a Free agent and chose not to re-sign with his KHL team so I'm guessing he's looking to come back to the NHL this off-season and doesn't want to risk injury/poor play. He's usually the first goalie named to this team so he probably declined early on.

damn, the cheap shots just keep coming from you ......

bottom line is we need more Corvo.....

:p:

I enjoy giving you a hard time about Corvo as you did with me in regards to Martin. I knew that comment would drag you back to the thread. You've been a stranger here for awhile so I threw out the bait and you came back immediately!

I'm sure this Corvo/Martin banter will continue long into the future. :D

Good for Jack Johnson, as he's the only U.S. Olympian going out there, definitely commendable.

One season in finnish goalie coaching does wonders ;) Also you're not by any chance basing this evaluation on the one game he played with the river rats?
Naw, I saw him play plenty when he was with the Everblades. He actually posted some pretty good regular season stats there but in the playoffs he sucked. Not to mention he's a headcase. I'm trying to the find the video of him freaking out on his coach after he got pulled for playing like garbage.. it was pretty hilarious.

My lineup based on the current roster:

Tim Kennedy - Brandon Dubinsky - Kyle Okposo (A)
T.J. Galiardi - T.J. Oshie - David Moss
Nick Foligno - Ryan Potulny - Chris Kreider
Eric Nystrom - Ryan Carter - Christian Hanson

Jack Johnson (C) - Andy Greene
Keith Yandle - Matt Greene (A)
Jack Hillen - Mike Lundin
Taylor Chorney - Matt Gilroy

Scott Clemmensen
Meh

***With two roster spots still available, I just hope that we can add two guys to help solidify some scoring options. So with that, eventually slot in a Gionta, Gomez, Kane, Kessel, Pavelski, Kesler, JVR, Wheeler or Eaves in there too, hopefully one or two of the first 6 to help solidify some scoring depth.

***As Rabid pointed out, the schedule is favorable. Germany on May 7th and Denmark on May 10th are games we should win. Finland on the 12th is a toss up but a winnable game. They've been hammered by declined invitations too. As long as the Second round doesn't all go to game 7s, we could have our additional 2 players here by the 14th/15th, which is when our QF game would be based on us finishing 1st/2nd in our group.

I'd imagine Kreider will be getting top 6 minutes, no other point in inviting him if he won't be in a scoring role.

I figure he'll be used much like Wilson last year. If I'm not mistaken (and I could be, I didn't watch any of the games) he was pretty much a 4th liner.

Defense looks solid all things considered, Matt Greene/JMFJ was a huge coup. The goaltending is atrocious though, after a handful of quality US goaltenders our depth is scary.

The team looks solid (as solid as team Canada IMO).

The only question is in goal, but if Clemmensen can step up, then USA may surprise a lot of people.

I'm surprised Brian Elliott didn't get an invite.

What about Stastny? I don't get why he didn't get a invite. Also I much rather have Liles on D then Hillen. It's just a conquincidence, they both happen to play for Colorado.

Stastny would have been invited but probably declined. Just because someone isn't on the team doesn't mean they weren't invited. There's just been no public mention of him declining.

Liles over Hillen isn't a make or break decision. Liles brings more offense and Hillen more defense. Either way, Hillen was added early before Liles was available and Liles wasn't going to make it over Johnson/Yandle/Greene/Greene in the second wave.

Cant wait to see him play. Looks like he is gonna be the real deal. Looks like we will see what hes got in this tourney not playin against kids his own age

at the same time, let's not go around calling him a bust if he doesn't get to play a lot or looks in over his head. He's still really young and has a lot of developing to do. Being thrown into the fire in an international competition against NHLers isn't the best way to say for sure how a 19 year old will pan out

i hope the US could get 2 point producing forwards.. Preferably Kessel and a guy like Pavelski, kane, kesler.. Is there a rule of join date?

Hoping to see Kreider have a respectable tournament. it is a HUGE plus to even have the kid practice with these players and coaches.

If your a ranger fan, i was praying for callahan to play in this... Also i was praying drury would suit up.. Those two became two of my favorites after the olympics. Also i think drury is going to be a last option kinda guy.. If no one else wants to play i think he will answer the call

The last two players can't join the team until after the round robin games (against Germany, Denmark, Finland) so the earliest they could play would be the qualification round game on May 14th or May 15th.

Toews did it and excelled, altho I imagine being even half the player toews is would be a good NHLer still
