I think Josefson is a bust, they've tried very hard with the guy but he just isn't good enough, a lot of you forget that he was given a chance to play with Kovalchuk and produced nothing.

Brunner will take his place in the line-up

when was he given an extended chance to play with Kovalchuk exactly?

hes 22 and has had injury problems. hes not a bust.

I have a picture from the 2nd game of the 2011-12 season. Josefson is taking a draw with Kovalchuk and Nick Palmieri as his wings (that line got the GWG). Josefson broke his collarbone a week later against San Jose. By the time he came back, Henrique had usurped his spot in the top 6.

My brain has purged most of my memories of the 2010-11 season, but I don't recall Josefson getting regular time with Kovalchuk. Thought it was mainly Kovalchuk-Zajac-Palmieri in the second half under Lemaire. Under MacLean, I think everybody had a chance with Kovalchuk and nobody really clicked. Palmieri seemed to work since he played a simple game and didn't need the puck.

I'm not ready to write him off yet, but this is (obvious statement forthcoming) a big year for him to prove something.

Josefson is subject to waivers? I thought he gets 4 years/160 games of exemption? Isn't this his 4th year?

It's not concrete. It varies based on how old the player was when they sign their first NHL contract.

Josefson was 19 when he signed so he does get 4 years, 160 games. However, if a 18-19 year old player plays in more than 10 games in that year, the total year drops to 3 for skaters. He played 28 games as a 19 year old, so he loses a year of waiver exemption.

Similar to what Matteau went through this past season, although I think Matteau also played enough games to lose a year off his ELC.

I don't want to say "No way" but I highly doubt Loktionov will be a top 6 center. If Henrique isn't the 2C, I imagine Elias will be.

Lokti seems to have the leg up on JJ for third line center, and played that way Monday. But no way he slots higher than Zajac, Henrique and Elias.

That's some bizarre logic. Brunner is/was a 27 year old UFA, with limited NHL experience.

Comparing him to two of our own prospects that have yet to really cut their teeth in the hockey world, is a little off. You're talking about 22 year olds here...

With one of the worst prospect pools for forwards, there's little doubt that they were rushed into the NHL. Josefson and Tedenby might not be ready for the NHL but who would take their place? That's one reason Lou is turning towards a 27 year old UFA who is at least semi-established.

Or as another poster put it, they just might not be that good. I hope I'm wrong but Josefson seems like Zharkov the second coming, it's great that he can play defense, but it's also too bad he's a center who can't score. Tedenby has the tools but hasn't been able to put it together on the highest stage in world hockey.

I don't like that guys as young as Ted's and JJ are exposed to waivers so early in there careers. I know it benefits the players in that they can get a chance to play else where, but I'd like to see the team that drafted these player get more time to develop them.

I agree. It would be nice if the player could refuse the claim at least until age 25 or something.

We need skilled forwards.

No, we just need good forwards.

I'll take the Marchands and the Lucics of the world over Versteegs and Fleishmanns thanks.

Tedi and JJ will be good players for us someday. They are just one year overdue.

Parise, Zajac, Elias, Sykora - none of these guys got a real sniff until they were turning 21.
Madden was 25. Brylin 24. Guerin 22 Rolston 22 Morrison 23

Which ones of Parise, Zajac, Elias, Sykora, Madden, Brylin, Guerin, Rolston or Morrison weren't skilled?

guys please refrain from insinuating that josefson, or any of our forwards, arent god-like. if youre going to keep suggesting that everythings not A-OK with one of our prospects, you can go form another site so you can all go agree with each other. common sense

That's not the issue. The consensus seems to be that either the two are total busts and should be waived or they are going to become great players.

The reality is probably in the middle. Either could become a bust, but neither are yet. Either could become good, but neither are yet. I'm just getting tired of people saying we should completely give up on 22 year olds.

Confirming what you said, Capgeek's waiver calculator shows that JJ will have to go through waivers. They say JJ's cutoff was 3 years, not 4.

If JJ and Tedenby need to go through waivers, that's going to suck. I'd much rather have JJ spend a year in Albany as a top 6 center than have him rot on the bench as the 13th (or 14th) forward.

that's not the consensus, at all. not even close. i'd wager that 95% of people in this thread are of the "we still don't know what we have" mindset on JJ and Teddy. it gets tiring always reading lectures from people when an outlier offers a rather 'strong' POV. who knows, maybe in 5 years he will be a bust? 95% may disagree with calling that NOW, but there should be a mutual respect for differing opinions.

You're right. I should have said the loudest opinions are that they are busts or could be really good.

I understand both sides. I just find it hard to think either is true. I agree with the consensus that we don't really know what we have. Especially with Tedenby. He's a real wildcard IMO.

I think that if others earn the spots in training camp, you need to let JJ and Tedendby go. I would try to trade them for picks
