the thing that annoys me is that, this is not a team that needs to add something to be successful. its a team that needs to remove things. but it wont happen :/

I disagree. With what we had, before Brunner was invited here, we would have basically been in the same boat as last year if one of the top 6 players went down. The depth right now looks pretty decent but if someone like Elias, Jagr, Ryder, gets hurt then were going to have guys getting bumped up to spots they shouldn't be in which is asking for trouble. With Brunner here, the depth would still be good enough to overcome an injury. The only player that needs to be "removed" is Volchenkov and its probably not happening. I guess Barch and Gionta as well but I really don't care about them right now.

Darche also stayed almost a month into the season last year. Then we traded for Poni and he left and retired.

I don't see Brunner staying around for weeks or anything, but maybe for the first week of the regular season. Then if guys aren't doing anything, Brunner gets signed.

I think Brunner is likely signed before the season starts though.

Like apice said though Darche was in camp for a reserve role.

Brunner would be a start every night on the 3rd line at worst. Other teams will sniff around knowing he could be had for cheap and he wouldn't sit for a week if someone else gives him an opportunity to play and they will.

He will be either signed by the end of preseason or he is gone.

I just hope we really do sign him. I think we will but I have it in the back of my head that maybe Lou will decline if Tedenby has a great camp, and then he'll go back to his usual sucking once the regular season gets here.

Elias - Zajac - Ryder(we now have the depth to run this line)
Brunner - Henrique - Jagr
Clowe - Josefson - Zubrus
Tedenby/Gionta/Olesz/Pesonen etc etc - Carter - Bernier

Switch Josefson down to the 4th line with Olesz on the 3rd and that's not so bad. Zubes would have to play center on that line though.

I'm starting to believe that the line combos aren't as important as the chemistry at this point.

The way I see it is line 1 through 3 is irrelevant but finding players that compliment each other and click is the key now.

Given the lack of RH shots, I'd be surprised if they shuffled Brunner to the offwing. If it were me, I'd go with this lineup:

Elias-Zajac-Jagr/Brunner
Clowe-Henrique-Ryder
Zubrus-Loktionov-Jagr/Brunner
Carter-Josefson-Bernier
Tedenby-Olesz

With the back-to-backs and inevitable injuries/ineffectiveness, Tedenby and Olesz would probably still get opportunities throughout the season. You could then sneak Gionta/Barch through waivers at the beginning of the season and I'd imagine they'd clear. You could call them back up if needed since there's no longer re-entry waivers.

Why? I'm not sure we're gonna see much offense with Josefson on the 3rd line. Perhaps we won't with Loktionov either, but I'm not very confident with him on the 3rd at all.

Yup. But they're good tough decisions. Having to choose the best is always better than having to settle to fill a slot.

So when do we expect to see Brunner get some preseason ice time>

With all the guys vying for spots, both the newcomers like Olesz and Brunner or the young guys like Ted and Boucher, not to mention the youngs guys on D, this preseason is really interesting.

This is probably the best lineup we can possibly ice. I'd go with this if I was Pete. Zubrus and Jagr together intrigue me.

Agreed.

This lineup seems to give us at least one shooter on each of the top 3 lines and creativity as well.

Chiming in to say I like these the most. Brunner has played with top forwards in Detroit and is paired again with our best 2 way forwards. Second line has all the elements you want in a line except for speed. Third line is puck possession for DAYS. And then there's an upgraded fourth line. I'm fine rolling with Yayo and Teddy as the extras this year too.

With that said I love the idea of interchangeable parts and the depth we have this year. A lot of hype this year but I don't think the depth is anywhere near the team we had in the SCF.

It's why this darn preseason game on Thursday actually intrigues me enough to maybe go (and I NEVER tend to go to a second/third preseason game). Seeing the first couple of preseason games this year'll be somewhat informative.

Hope there will be streams cause I'd like to watch some more of them for the same reason.
