Good Interview tape.

I have no issues with the hire. Not sure about Staios/Bowness combo in the GM seat . There is no reason why as a group they can't build out the Hockey Ops with good people that would lead to better decisions in the scouting departments
I agree. Neither Staois nor Bowness have GM experience. Both are question marks. However, almost anyone would be an improvement over Dorion.

I did not see an “interim” tag on Staios as GM, so Staios is our GM going forward. How will he do? Let’s find out!

That is so true, I remember when Dorion was the GM and many posters here would say I want Steve Staios as our GM well now you got him...be happy
Many? Who?

So does this still shake out with a GM hire in the off season and Poolie is just the assistant to Staois?

If so I like it as I always enjoy listening you Poolie talk on the ‘radio’.

I still think we need a GM and another AGM to deal with cap and contracts.
We will probably add one or two more assistant GMs to handle scouting and something else such as Belleville GM and player development.

Totally ok with this, we can now start making actual moves without the cloud of the next GM not approving said moves hanging over our heads.
There was no cloud!

My guess is that Staios has decided there's no one they can hire as GM during the season so he'll take off the interim tag until the offseason. Then next summer they can hire someone as GM and Staios will just be POHO.
I doubt that happens. There was no interim tag mentioned in the media release. He was already interim.

Stupid.

Staios has zero experience as an NHL GM. So we changed Melnyk with Melnyk. I like Pouly, I really do. But does Andlauer only hire people from f***ing TSN1200? Wtf is this.

Like I can see him and Staios huddled around the radio , with a log fire in the background, listening to Martin and say “he would be good as a coach”, and “Pouly made some great points there, let’s offer him a job too”.

What an absolute joke of a franchise

Andlauer is an unstable hysterical sac of shit?
Or are you comparing Staios with Dorion?

Either way while on the surface neither had GM experience its hilariously obvious that Dorion was in so far over his head I wish we could re-hire him just so we could fire him again- his complete inability to communicate anything effectively to anyone while delegating nothing because he was an insecure toad with a history of accomplishing absolutely nothing was a preposterous joke.

It was pretty clear from the press conference exactly why they hired Poulin. Years of familiarity on a personal level with both Andlauer and Staois as well and over that time a shared vision for how a team should be built and play.
Staios Bowness Poulin is more than enough horsepower to accomplish whatever they need to do. Lots of hockey smarts from every angle.

I love what they are doing right now from coaching up to execs.

What a fantastic strawman you've constructed. If you don't mind, could you specifically quote the posts from "several" people who are "pining for the Melnyk, Dorion, DJ Sens"?

Good thing we fixed that mistake by *checks notes* making the new GM's boss himself.

You know, when some of us heard a new owner was taking over and he was going to bring "best in class" practices to an organization that had operated like a third tier Turkish handball team for the last decade, that maybe, juuuuuuust maybe, that meant people with qualified NHL experience would be tasked with important senior roles.

So far, they've appointed a guy with almost no executive experience at the NHL level to be the POHO. He's now also become the GM, another role he has literally no experience in at the NHL level. And the SVPHO is a guy with a modicum of NHL experience, from 10 years ago, whose tenure can only be considered a failure in the simplest of terms.

Sorry, are we supposed to be jumping for joy?

The point of making changes to reflect "best in class" is you appoint the best people for the job. Are these really the best people we could have hired for POHO, SVPHO and GM? And can you explain why?
I agree with you that the new hires are not the “best in class” because they do not have previous experience and success in their jobs.

The only new hire that did was Jacques and he is only an interim hire.

13-18. That's a fact too. You'd think with that much talent we'd be better

They should absolutely have a better record, no question. all it shows is that DJ Dorion were THAT terrible

It's the GM and coaching staff responsibility to build and develop team cohesion/chemistry, structure, puck support, all these things I am hinting at in the following post to your quote

Pierre McGuire also seemed quite intelligent during his regular radio segments.

Again, I'm not saying Poulin is a bad hire. I'm sticking to a wait and see approach.
McGuire spent a decade plus trying to get back into hockey and no one would touch him

I like what they're doing too.

The GM is obviously the guy on the phone doing a deal, but there's Poulin, Bowness, Martin, Alfie, Capuano to provide an opinion on trades and NHL players. That's a lot of years of experience

Nothing is more stupid than thinking Andlauer is anything like Melnyk.

All he has done is add since he took over the team for 1 billion in PRE SEASON. He's upgrading absolutely everywhere and spending money everywhere. From hockey ops, to marketing, to in arena staff, to medical staff.

He's hired a bunch of great hockey minds and people with integrity and experience. The melnyk rot in this organization isn't going to go away over night.

It takes time. Straight from someone I know in the organization who is high up. 'The changes have been astronomical' ' the culture is unrecognizable compared to before'.
This new owner has hired two guys off the local radio station. You like those optics Bert? What’s next? Mike Johnson as a senior advisor and Eric Macramala on the legal advisory side?

I want a GM with experience. No one was considered. No one was interviewed. Doesn’t sound Melnykian at all eh.

And if I hear “stability” one more time from Andlauer I am going to give him my tickets back

We have the 9th best goal differential in the east, 13th best all situations xGF%, we probably should have a better record than we do, goaltending has been really rough, that's not to say the team has played great hockey, but this team should be be in the mix for the wild card spot imo, they've just managed to give away some games they shouldn't have.

Andlauer WAS part of the ownership group that kept Bergevin in Montreal for so long. So he does have skeletons. Was hoping things would be different and we would hire experienced people with recent experience.

I don’t know I feel about Staios as GM, it’s not like we have anything to go on in terms of trades or cap management to evaluate him on. For that reason I’m skeptical, but hey, prove me wrong.

Can we give Pounder a role?

I would imagine we'll take a shot at Darche in the offseason but we need somebody manning the rudder until that time. We have a trade deadline coming up and im sure they've got plans to re-shape the lineup a bit on the backend

Eh....I'm going to withhold judgement til the summer.

The whole thing just feels weird. First their guys wouldn't be available til summer and it was being patient, now it's hiring people halfway through the year and Staios having no experience at the NHL (management) level. Just giving me weird vibes.

But, let things settle and give them a chance.
