Management UPDATE: Steve Staios GM and POHO, Dave Poulin Senior VP of Hockey Operations

Every single hire we've done since Andlauer has come on board has been a nepotism hire, promotion from within, or a TSN1200 hire.

Hopefully this will work out.

They haven’t hired anyone from TSN1200, they’ve hired people that have been guests.
Guess lots of folks preferred the one man show from previous regime.

Then we have, the didn’t hire the right person, as he’s an idiot.

Do you guys not remember Poulin's tenure as a decision maker during Toronto's dark age? He became a bit of a running joke in Leafland because he would constantly go on Toronto radio and spout absolute nonsense, usually right after he and the rest of the jokers in the Leafs front office had done something colossally dumb.

When the Leafs shitcanned this guy and Claude Loiselle it was pretty much the symbolic end of the Burke/Nonis era of utter failure. Moving away from dinosaurs who just didn't get where the game was going and seemed pathologically incapable of making a correct decision.

97 percent of people would be neutral until proven otherwise. Calling someone an idiot right off tells a lot about yourself.
What do you think it tells you about myself.

That I’m a sceptical sports fan? That I’ve seen HUNDREDS of front office hires across several sports fail? Guys know someone who knows someone. Former players with clout. These people fail.

Front office hires are there to be fired unless they win.

Now. I’ve read that’s he’s a “brilliant” hockey mind. Brilliant is a big word. Brilliant means results. Guarantees results really.

Now to be clear. I didn’t see Dave on the street and call him an idiot. That may tell you something about me.

I'm a little pissed because if the game plan was to give staios the gm role then DJ should have been fired much earlier

Wasted our season letting that idiot 'coach' for as long as we did

You have some inside knowledge on the decision maker in a group led by Brian Burke?

So my take is that you don't like Poulin Lolll

Another person I’d like to see added is Joe Thornton.
He is currently GM of the Canadian Spengler Cup team.

Why would I need that? I can look at the results of what they did, and listen to the guy himself try to rationalize it and rightfully conclude that he isn't fit to be a decision maker for an NHL club.

This guy was Dave Nonis' right hand man in an era where everything the Leafs did was wrong. What are you going with? That Poulin is a secret genius who always had a different take but kept getting overruled by others?

You don't have to take my word for it. Mosey over to the Leafs board and ask them what they think about Dave Poulin's time as a high-level executive for their team.

Woulda been nice to have peak Alfie and Poulin playing for this team. Hopefully they can help establish a tone and culture. I will just hope that Poulin fares as well after leaving the byzantine leafs org as Larry Murphy did

You called him the decision maker .. Do you stand by that ... If I had to guess Burke was such a strong personality that not much went without him saying so.
You seemed to blame Poulin for the failure of the Leafs decisions at the time.
So to do that you would need some knowledge of it no?

Go to the leafs board .. ya ok... where truth reigns supreme

That was a long time ago and he wasn't calling the shots.

We want experience and do not have any time to waste if we want to turn this roster around.

I don't want to blow the roster up but I think we need emergency surgery.

Lol the usual negative nancies upto the usual woe is me anthems.

Great work here by Andlauer. He's really putting in pieces that will put this team on a consistent path of success.

Despite the fact some of you think we should somehow be best in league without DJ and crew now, shit takes a bit of time to sort out.

Personally, as again I'm really happy with the work Andlauer has done with this team given some of the ridiculous issues he's had to overcome with his new inheritance.

Poilin is a great addition. And all accounts, Bowness is a developing hockey executive. Tough to be upset with the direction of this team in my opinion.

After the firing of Dorion and DJ Smith, the Front Office had gotten thin again, with Martin and Alfie having to go behind the bench. We definitely needed to hire more people again. Waiting for Darche or whoever while decisions needed to be made at the trade deadline wasn't possible, and we also still need a head scout for the draft.

I want people with recent experience in NHL Front Offices, with a finger on the pulse of current hockey thinking. Do we have someone who can make sure we don't f up contracts like Dorion did? Do we have someone with a lot of connections to find us best in class pro scouts and amateur scouts? Not sure making Staios the GM and hiring Poulin achieves any of this. Hopefully there's more to come.

Totally forgot he worked with the leafs. Hmm. Brilliant mind indeed.

We need experience winning. Not just experience. I have experience playing soccer. Don’t ask me to win the World Cup
