NESN UPDATE - NESN’s Jack Edwards announces retirement

Same game as you. Compared to what he sounded like last season, he was fine tonight. He's going to talk slower to get his words out. Clearly he has aphasia. I give him credit. He's clearly worked on his speech. It's not perfect, but it's fine compared to last season.
I disagree. I had to mute the TV multiple times, especially on intro’s into periods, specifically the third. I thought it was worse than last season. To each their own.

In fairness, Brickley also messed up the name. I thought Edwards' slowing brain-voice reflexes weren't all that much of an issue during game action. He still has better than average play-by-play skills. Ironically, it's when things slow down--during breaks in the action, before the game, etc., that he seems to lose it and becomes somewhat painful to listen to.

Jack was behind the play quite a bit. In a game with a lot of new players with odd numbers it was hard to follow. Starting next week it won't be as much of a factor.

For the most part he sounded better at least to these ears and I'm happy for him if he can continue to improve and stay in the saddle as announcer this year.

When he does go ad-lib (all but play calling) he did seem to revert a bit but hopefully he can get into a groove and perform.

I get it that we all feel bad for him. But people that can’t do their job anymore because of physical ailment is always sad. This guy is in the entertainment industry. He was paid well I’m sure. I can’t recall a case where it dragged on like this. Holy shit it’s just painful at this point. If he won’t retire NESN have to step in, it’s f***ing crazy at this point.

He is here for the season unless, God forbid, some physical problem makes it impossible. We can all live with his new slower style. Faust is doing the occasional Ranger radio game. If Jack can't work, odds are very good we are stuck with Tom Caron, and nobody wants that. I sure don't.

I just home someone close to him reaches out and is like “Jack, this is tough on you and everyone else” - I get that it may be a harsh thing to say to someone, but it’s bad.

I just don’t know how NESN is listening and is like “this is good quality stuff” - someone has to step in here for everyone.

He doesn’t even know what’s going on half the time and starts a sentence and it just goes off the track into nothingness.

Tonight him asking Lucic questions was absolutely painful. A simple question took like 40 seconds to get out.

It’s just tough, man. I hope his health isn’t declining and this is more less years of fatigue.

Caron is good in the booth and stands, but absolutely terrible at play-by-play.
