Yes. I remember and I thought it was put to bed and Jack was coming back for sure.

@Alicat I can see a reduced workload for Jack similar to what the Blackhawks did Pat Foley's final year.Faust said multiple times that Jack would be back on Tuesday plus he was at camp Saturday. If they fire him this close to the season then they are giant pieces of shit.

Yeah that would make sense to me. Essentially have a transition year - Jack does the majority of games but gets a few breaks, especially from road games, and NESN can use those to try out Faust or whoever else and a) make sure they're the right fit, and b) get the audience used to a different voice before Edwards bows out at season's end. Perhaps Jack won't like it, given his well-known past gripes about missing games due to national broadcasts, but it would probably be the best way to go about things.
It is Nesn, they are giant turds, greedy clueless giant turds. However, I take them at their word.Faust said multiple times that Jack would be back on Tuesday plus he was at camp Saturday. If they fire him this close to the season then they are giant pieces of shit.
A reduction in workload isn’t a bad thing and would likely have been decided awhile ago but an all out boot so close to the season is not something that sits well with me but is typical NESN. The worst thing about this is who is “reporting” it.@Alicat I can see a reduced workload for Jack similar to what the Blackhawks did Pat Foley's final year.
@Aussie Bruin - It's a delicate situation. Trust me getting older is not for the meek.
Fred Cusick at the age of 69 when this happened in 1988.
Bob Wilson walked away in 1994 at the age of 65 when the Bruins/WRKO told him to file unemployment during a lockout.
Jack is 66 and knows his verbal skills have diminished. He is aware of the sad legacy of Ken Coleman who the Red Sox cut loose in 1989 at the age of 65 and his last gig was being hired to call BU Football on WBUR and kept calling BU players BC.
*PERSONAL NOTE* I'm slowing down as a camop as well. Not because of skills eroding but the travel.
His name is making a comeback now thanks to the Immaculate Grid hockey version and PuckdokuPat Falloon has been retired for 22 years.
After Jack's performance last year, it makes perfect sense for NESN to have a backup plan. I think Alex Faust is excellent and is only freelancing because the Kings consolidated their TV and radio broadcasts. Fred Cusick and Bob Wilson, while older, were still on top of their games at the end. Nobody can say that about Jack if you go back and listen to his broadcasts from the 2011 Cup run. He was top notch then. He's a long way from that now. You could cover up his 'eccentricities' and awkward moments when he was in his prime. Now, its just getting worse and worse.
I agree with what you say, however I'd argue we've already reached that point. Last year cinched it for me....The travel must take a toll.
Time catches up with us all eventually. I hope that Jack can finish on his own terms and knows when to walk away before he's pushed. He's earned that, as long as he's realistic and doesn't cling on to the bitter end.
Maybe so, but my point about Jack stands. And a faltering Cusick was still better than Dave Shea.I beg to differ. Cusick was not at the top of his game. He held on way too long, but I chalk that up to him not wanting Shea to get his job. I'm a romantic like that.

I've always been a big fan of Jack, but I also like Faust quite a bit as well. Faust calls a very professional game, which is probably why multiple national networks have hired him to call multiple sports during his career.that guy last night was 100x better than listening to jack. what a difference
That's good to hear, because he wasn't very helpful identifying players in the Rangers game.I've always been a big fan of Jack, but I also like Faust quite a bit as well. I get that he sounded very vanilla last night, but people have to realize it was just a pre-season game and Faust didn't have the familiarity with the team like he did in his time at LA. YouTube probably has some clips of him announcing Kings games. In listening to him do Kings games over the past 5 or so years I found him to be very solid. He was super knowledgeable about the Kings and I really like his goal call. I for sure hope he gets the job with NESN when Jack leaves.
I agree. It was annoying because I had to keep trying to look hard at player numbers to know who was who since he wasn't calling certain names when they had the puck. I assumed he didn't have much time to prep for the game. That's good to hear, because he wasn't very helpful identifying players in the Rangers game.
