He probably saw we are getting lots of fresh skin in the farm and decided to go to Vegas

I dont blame him I woulda done the same unless I knew I was good enough to outplay Mete.

So does anyone have the Habs on their list?

Frustrating to see the best available going elsewhere. This is looking a lot like when the Habs shop for UFAs.

They've got to do something more to get players interested.

Montreal signs their fair share of NCAA free agents. They can't get them all.

Also depends on positions , today for example,. if i am a goalie or a center , i would stay away from habs, as most likely i wont get any room or chance at playing time.

What if kaski can make Petry exendable in a very near future? We have alot of RHD depth in Laval but no one is ready to take a big step! Could use Petry to either upgrade our LHD right away or for picks and prospect. sign kaski, see how he does at the camp and maybe with a bit of AHL time, start him on the 3rd pair. 51 points in 59 games in the liiga... he must be doing something right... only 23 year old. He’s also from pori, same town as Kotkaniemi and Armia!

Wooooo Kaski never played pro. We don’t even know if he gonna be an NHL player, he is MILES away from Petry.

Not getting the top college UFAs isn't the end of the world, at least we are not seeing our college guys going the UFA route like Fox, Vesey, Reilly, etc.
The Habs biggest disadvantage is that not many top college UFAs are from Montreal, some players like playing for the teams they had on their bed sheets growing up.:sarcasm:

College/Euro UFAs likely lining up to sign with TO. With their cap issues and C depth, chances of making NHL on ELC is high and potentially get to play with good talent and put up some points for pay increase. Habs roster doesn't really have same appeal.

Surprises he signed an AHL deal. Good move for Toronto to have him sign an AHL deal.

Habs couldn't have offered an NHL deal? Who knows, maybe they did and the kid preferred the deal he got.

Good point !

I would think that teams were offering him NHL ELC. If not the Habs, then surely other teams.

I think this is a case of the kid wanting to play in Toronto. And maybe the Leafs were able to use that to their advantage and offer him an AHL deal instead of an ELC because they knew this is where he wanted to be.

When the Habs offered an AHL deal to Barré-Boulet, he preferred the NHL offer he got from Tampa. Sometimes it plays a part and sometimes not.

It's getting really old and tiring hearing the list of excuses of why the Habs can't sign any fee agent of significance at either the pro or amateur level. We are the equivalent of the Yankees in terms of history and wealth - do they have the same problems signing guys? No.

I knew this was going to happen - we will once again miss out on adding free talent without giving up assets. Even if they don't pan out, the Habs are in no position to not take that chance.

Oh..wait....i forgot, i'm sure they will sign some no name smurf from the Q.

You sound angry.

Not true, I remember reading that he was being offered AHL deals, but was holding out for an NHL deal, it would be crazy to sign an AHL deal instead of a guaranteed 3 year ELC.
Nobody was willing to offer an NHL deal, so he took the best AHL deal out there, are we really complaining about not signing a player that not one single team deemed worthy of an NHL contract?
