stepan is no a superstar imo. He is showing that he was perhaps one of the most underrated players, but not every thread has to revolve around "my" teams players.

Not every thread is revolving around my teams players, there just happens to be a thread which a player on my team fits perfectly. All depends on how you define arbitrary words like "superstar" or "amazing" but Stepan is unquestionably underrated on the main boards for anyone who's seen him play or compared his stats to the league's best centers.

i understand superstar is subjective, but of all players mentioned on teh first page, stephan is easily a step behind all of them he is generously the 4th biggest star on his team, superstar is not in his realm.

It's okay, I think Stepan is underrated, not quite an amazing player like the others mentioned, but underrated.

If he averages a PPG game the rest of the season, he will be. That's because most of the top players offensively absolutely suck defensively half the games they play. Stepan is a selke candidate. There are very few players averaging a PPG that can play that kind of defense.

I'm a huge fan of Andrew Ladd, there's no such thing as an underrated "super" star in the NHL atm, there are underrated stars though. Maybe Okposo as well? Justin Faulk was mentioned in another thread, he's someone who's a top 30 defenseman yet I still think of him being a 2nd pair guy for some reason. He's definitely underrated.

Easily the most valuable player on the Rangers.

With Stepan: 21-6-2, +40

Stepan injured: 6-7-2, -12

He missed 13 games with a broken leg during which the Rangers went 6-7. When he came back the Rangers won 18 of 24. He got hurt again, missed two games, Rangers lose both getting outscored 6-0, he comes back and they win 3 in a row again.

A team seems to transform from a non-playoff team to top 5 in the league based on whether he's in the lineup. I have to ask: if that's not a superstar, then what is?

Claude "one good season" Giroux. :sarcasm:

I would also say Nik Backstrom.

Also ...Alex Steen. Most talk about his great start last year and how he faded. But for LW, he is 6th this year in scoring, 9th last year, and 25th 2 years ago.

So for 3 straight years, Steen has produced as a 1st liner....and is trending upwards.

Stanislas Gvoth.

2 Harts and 4 Art Ross's, and overshadowed by his more charismatic teammate, Bobby Hull.

The Ducks had a better record with bonino in the lineup than without. Does that make him a superstar?

While not a superstar he is a close one. Max Pacioretty. Since 2011-2012 only Stamkos "101" has more even strength goals then Pacioretty.

He hasn't been talked about once in this thread. That's how you know he's underrated

An interesting thing about Steen is that other teams always seemed pissed at him. He's not clean, but he's also far from dirty and he's also not know as a bigtime chirper, either. But other teams always try to work him over and start stuff after the play, especially when he gets near the net. It almost never gets him to take a penalty or hampers his performance, but usually that reaction is a sign of a player that's particularly difficult to play against. It's no surprise that he has been one of the top "underrated" players in the occasional player polls.

Even though I'm a Blues fan and Steen fan, he's not a superstar, but he's an interesting one in the current pack of overlooked players.

Most people have him and Getzlaf before Crosby Malkin and Stamkos as far as best centers go. Not really underrated

sometimes valuable to a team does not equal star...
also no way stephan is more valuable than lunqvist or mcdonagh to the rangers... small sample size included.

I'm not sure that the 6th leading left wing scorer would be considered a superstar but would agree that Steen is underrated.
