looks surprisingly strong to me too no?
Not saying he is weak. He is strong for his size and looked like he is very smart and leverages his body and gets good positioning to help himself. I am sure he will only get stronger over the next few years. Getting better every game as becoming more comfortable. By far best offensive upside of any dman on the team except Fox; for now.

Why didn’t Georgiev play the whole game?

Especially since they knew going in there would be a shootout. If there’s anyone on the team that could use that practice who was in tonight’s lineup, it was him

definitely strong for his size and as you said leverages extremely well - obviously though still some areas he's just going to get pushed around a bit - at least now like on the walls and in front of the net. definitely feel like he's taken some massive strides in how comfortable he looks from the prospect games and isles game versus the last 2 nights. much more decisive on the puck and making calmer plays in his own zone. offensively he hasn't been pretty muted though more active tonight. don't see that as any issue with him though, more a product of not much continuity out there yet with the team moving up ice so limited opportunities. very happy with the amount of progress he's shown in such a short period.

Nils was excellent against a tough team. He looks a little nerve wracking in the d end but the results are positive overall.
Also thought traces looked faster than I expected. Won a few important foot races

Anyone else think Braden Schneider sneakily had a great game.

he made some great defensive plays including stealing a sure fire goal from Pasta.

not flashy but showed strong d awareness and strength in tying players up

He looks like he will almost certainly be an NHL defenseman in the league for a long time. My only questions are his current readiness and upside

So did these two wins against Boston count more or less than the two losses?

I don't think hes been bad at all in front of his net. He's gotten worked along the walls (was WAY better tonight in this regard though) and he's struggled against the rush. I haven't loved his passing out of his own end but as you mentioned that isn't entirely on him, though Jones has looked good here working with the same group of forwards who look like they have no clue what the f*** they're doing. Not strictly a Nils thing though, this needs to change and change fast. This is post DeAngelo Quinn shit that will drive me nuts if I have to sit through it for 82 games.

Offensively he was on point. Could have easily had a 4-5 point game. Dropped a pair of DIMES early in the 2nd to Blais and Lindgren. Those were high end NHL plays.

I thought nils was great. One sequence wbere he reverse checked an opponent was insane. I remember, im like wow who is number (64 right?) and i was shocked because nils is quite small. Not super small, but small. Yet, his head is always up, and he shows a cat like reflex paired with great leverage from his legs. He squats low and fast to anticipate a hit and doesnt want the puck off his stick. By the way, i think you need to move kreider to the third and pair strome with him and goodrow. Heres my reasoning: panarin can be with chytil or mika and laf can be the other line. Kakko with panarin because he knows his role now and kravstov with laf because i think kravstov has decent defense and paired with mika would open up a very high octane offense. Just give them a lot of ozone time and limit the dzone time. Run the three lines pretty evenly and account for pp time. Im saying this because strome is good at scoring but terrible defensively and goodrow will help that. Kreids needs a playmaker at this point and he can use breakway speed if they get pinned in their zone off a goodrow defensive play. Still, im very amazed at the comeback with our roster missing panarin mika and kreids while going up against their top 2 lines basically. Wall was huge too.

Blais is going to be a fan favorite he’s got skill and jam he’ll be very popular

Gauthier man just if he doesn’t produce he doesn’t defend well enough to stay in the lineup.
Blais is going to be what everyone wanted Lemieux to be. Hard forechecker, finish checks, cycle game and ability to pot 15-20 goals. He's a major upgrade for that role.

sorry, wasn't trying to say he has been bad in front, but its an area where hes going to have issues in certain situations. its just physics, and i'm sure he'll be able to figure out ways to defend there too, but again, if he winds up shoving match with tom wilson or anders lee for space in front thats the kinda thing he can't win. but again those are more situational scenarios i was intending to get at where because of his size he's just going to be at a disadvantage- didn't mean to suggest he was going to be awful there or had had issues there already. i'm 100% with you on the wall play - its another area certain situations are just gonna be a losing battle, so he has to figure out how to put himself in spots that avoid those as much as possible. also thought he's looked pretty shaky on retrievals - but like you said, he's significantly improved on the walls and to me he's looked a lot more comfortable retrieving pucks the last 2 games. as for the breakout passes also completely agree on both thoughts - little underwhelmed so far but hard to put it all on him when we've been a clusterfvck coming up ice with puck support. one thing i do remember hearing somewhere was that his seam passing wasn't one of his better skills which was surprising to hear. not sure how much truth in it. will say he's shown some nice vision, esp tonight, finding seams in the o zone. very fox like although he's got a flashier way of doing it. all things considered extremely happy with where he's at right now.

Well I’d say when you put it all out the table the intricate takeaways from the four preseason games may be a wash. However when you break down the intrinsic qualities of the victories and losses, we can then isolate the differences. The wins seemed to be almost a product of their environment where outside of playing to a subpar degree, we extrapolated enough drive to push through, whereas in our losses we did not extend any drive past a basic back check/mediocre forecheck game. I think at the end of the day it boils down to Blais stinks and it’s the preseason so we’ll see how this team is. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk.

Of course, I will say he completely out muscled Pasta and saved a sure fire goal on one play earlier in the game when a cross was headed to pasta.

the fact he had the awareness and strength to make this play tying up pasta’s stick shows it could be there.

You won’t see it on any highlight reel but it was an amazing play especially for a rookie

I think that Alex did a good job keeping this game within striking distance. The Rangers were under siege in the first period. The Bruins were crashing the net and getting a lot of great opportunities. That late power play goal by Blais put the game back in the picture.

Nils best game so far getting the primary assist on our first two goals and to my mind his best defensive effort. He looked a lot more on target against the Bruins than the Devils.

I’ve liked Rooney since he showed up last year. He’s a gamer and he’s willing to play a role without taking shortcuts. Heads up play by Lafreniere on Ullmark’s brain fart. Kakko, Strome and Gauthier were good. Reaves did his job and Cuylle is going to be a good one.

Wall’s looked good both times he’s played which is at least once more than all the other goalies.

Chytil has been outplayed by a few players, he may be young but I don't think he will ever put it together. I hope he finds another home this year.
