My take, from ice level, watching Pav and the D closely for 2 periods:
1)Pavelec was very solid. As others have said, it could easily have been 3-1 LA after 1 period. If Pavs stops 33 out of every 36 shots all year and gives up no freebies, we make the playoffs.

2)D-Buff was our best D IMO. He played big, tough, smart and got the puck out of harms way, without taking undue chances.
Trouba, Enstrom and Bogo were good but not great. Stuart and Postma simply cannot react to pressure quickly enough to clear the zone. Even as a mistake-prone rookie, Trouba has poise under pressure that those two can only dream of.

3)F-Ladd is playing like he never had a pre-season and Wheeler is playing like he always does at this time of year. Thank goodness for the under-appreciated Little.
Frolik is everything we hoped Burmi would be, and more. Jokinen is less than we thought he'd be a year ago, but already MUCH better than last season. Agree with others that Tangradi has much more potential than Wright to be a productive third liner.

A couple of observations after the play stopped:
After Jokinen scored his (?300th) goal, Kane went after the puck like a man on a mission and semed pleased as punch to present it to him, And then, late in the game, when LA were trying to goad Kane into a fight, Bogo stepped in (or was it Buff) to come to his aid and keep the peace. They really looked like a group that likes and supports each other. Must have been all that hand-holding in Banff.

What do you make of Byfuglien's defensive-zone turnovers in the 1st period?

I like the guy as much as anybody but he blew a handful of clearing chances and it could have cost the team dearly.

Very happy with our top 9 F. Still quite a few scary moments when the 4th line is out there, wouldn't mind seeing Hali and Tony P rotated in. Anyways, I'm not going to nitpick tonight, I'm just going to bask in the glory that is NHL hockey. :)

The breakout as a whole was bad in the 1st period. Adjustments were made in the 2nd, bring it up the middle if you can because the Kings are taking away the boards.

Has anyone mentioned Kane's Gordie Howe hat-trick plus?

'Cause I am' Kane with the Gordie tonight, plus an extra goal.

Hana. I mentioned this to the guys sitting around me after the fight. "He's probably just trying to get the Gordie Howe hat trick". For the rest of the night we were hoping for an assist.

Thanks for those fancystats. Looking at them helps my gut theory that LLW was really bad tonight. They had over 50% OZS yet poor actual production vs. production against. In fact our 4th line had 0% OZS but better offensive production.

As far as your defensive shell is concerned, I feel as though a neutral zone trap should only be played for short times, maybe 2-3 shifts, then go back to normal 5v5 play. Do this to slow down the game, wear the other team down, and slow any momentum swings. But doing it for a whole period sitting on a one goal lead is a joke.

It's early days, but wow, is this what it's like to have more than one scoring line? I think I like it! :)

The thing is, we haven't seen this team play a complete game yet. The game in Edmonton was sloppy and tonight against LA it took 30 minutes to really get the ball rolling.

But then again, the Western teams don't have the book on the Jets yet. It seemed last year, the gameplan when playing the Jets at MTSC was to score early to take the crowd out of it and then trap and frustrate the team's speed as much as possible. But that becomes more difficult when we can roll 3 dangerous lines...

You're right, it's only Game 2 and the Jets have struggled in the first half of games.

But I think Winnipeg came out hard enough in the 1st to slow the Kings down a lot. Maybe it's just the back-2-back factor but I liked the Jets' initial physical play.

Just got back and it was quite the game:

I liked how the team showed that it has all the ingredients to compete with the best on a physical and speed level. We are also starting to show that we can keep up from a skill level as well. Still a lot of work to do to put it together on a consistent basis but I like what I see.

LLW: Little is playing quite well on both sides of the puck but he's not getting any help whatsoever from his wingers so far. Ladd and Wheeler need to pick it up and help him out. Once this line starts to click we could have a very strong top 9.

KSS: These guys just click really well together. Kane was flying and Seto was very good. I was very interested in seeing how Scheifele did against one of the most physical teams in the league and he more than held his own from a physical standpoint. I want to echo what has been said already in that he does all the little things right and that its only a matter of time before he starts taking the bull by the horns offensively and when he does we'll have a very scary player on our hands.

Olli and Frolik have been great together and Tangradi looks like he has the correct skill set to round out that line and give us 3 very balanced and dangerous lines.

I also think we have the makings of an excellent top 4. Trouba and Buff have been quite good so far this year. Bogo is still adapting to playing his off side but given enough time that pairing will be very good. Toby also looks like he's rounding back into form. Postma on the other hand has been a mess and Clitsome can't come back soon enough.

If Pavs keeps this up I may have to change my opinion on him. His positioning has been much better, but he still needs to work on his rebound control! All in all a good start for him.

I thought Noel managed the game well today.

I think we are really starting to see Chevy's genius and the strength of our hockey ops department. While the season is still young, it looks like he has drafted two potential impact players with his first two 1st rounders. Both Trouba and Scheifele look to have top of the line skill and fit the culture that this organization is trying to build. He's made a number of very cheap savoy pick ups in Frolik, Tangradi and Clitsome. Seto looks right at home with Kane and Scheifele.

I really think that if we can get LLW going and if we can stabilize the bottom pairing this team is poised to take a massive step forward.
