One player I would like to say that I'm very impressed with is Setoguchi. To be honest, I was a little worried that when we traded for him, he'd be a passive player just looking for the next paycheque, but he seems to really like playing with Kane and Scheif, and he's more physically engaged than I expected him to be. Really liking what he's doing out there for us!

Quick thoughts....

A really strong game by the Jets. Their speed and physical play took over from the 2nd period on. A couple of late PP goals by LA flattered them in the end.

Kane was the best player by far. A dominant performance.

Seto and Scheif are really good with Kane. Scheif's game has been underrated by some - like Ulf Nilsson. He's so often in the right place and makes smart plays with the puck. Always creates good spacing for linemates. He is going to get a lot of points playing with that line.

Little was strong again - Ladd and especially Wheeler look really rusty. That line is way behind their performance from last year. Unquestionably the third best line on the Jets so far. Good thing the Jets have more scoring and skill depth this year.

Jokinen was very strong again. I really appreciate the way he's been playing - strong. He and Frolik form a great third line. I really liked Tangradi there. I disagree with those ragging on him. He was dangerous and effective in various facets. I expect him to stay on that line for some time.

The Jets need a lot of work on the face-off. Really weak.

Postma and Stuart were a horror show in the first period, but were a bit stronger as the game went on.

Trouba was a bit less mistake-free, but that is a hard team to play as a rookie. He continues to show some fantastic skill and potential. He's the real deal. Bogosian got stronger after the first period, but still looks unsettled on the left side.

Buff made a couple of bonehead plays, but played a very physical game and was generally a strong asset with Enstrom.

Pavs was fine, but his rebound control was a bit shaky. Couldn't really see how he was the 1st star (Kane was the obvious choice).

pretty much how I saw it but will add a couple things

Postma/Stuart got better but were still pretty bad - Stuart can't PK effectively anymore

Slater had a pretty strong game but that line as a whole was pretty dreadful - was basically open season for the Kings to apply pressure in the Ozone

I think the biggest example of this was after the 4th goal Noel put out W/S/T and Postma/Stuart and I turned to my friend and said "This won't end well" total momentum killer

4th line needs fewer 5v5 minutes and get Slater and Wright their time on PK - them finishing with over 10 min is ~2 min too much

edit: had a total blast at the game - crowd was awesome

saw Holden and was gonna say hi but he's big and kinda looks like a serial killer and didn't wanna chance getting shivved in the spleen

Shots on goal tonight, by line...

KSS - 11
TJF - 9
LLW - 3

Pretty much indicative of their play. Once LLW comes around and plays anywhere close to last year, this Jets team could be very dangerous.

I think we are seeing glimpses of exactly what we hoped for: serious upgrade on RW with Seto and Frolik; Scheif boosting the 2nd line; Trouba stepping in and contributing on D.

I agree with your # s but if Wheeler would have taken the
the shot when he was free and cleAR IN THE SLOT .....LLW would have had 6 more hots.......:yo:

oh god...
is...is it too early to wonder...if we actually have a team that national pundits have underranked?

do we have 3 lines?
do we have semi-solid D that will only improve with time?
is Pavs an above average goalie?

and may we honestly be toying with finishing 4-6 in the West, versus 7-12?

What do you make of Byfuglien's defensive-zone turnovers in the 1st period?

I like the guy as much as anybody but he blew a handful of clearing chances and it could have cost the team dearly.

Don't know exactly how to answer this. The first period was brutal in general. They outshot and outplayed us badly and Buff made a giveaway, under pressure, at the end of a PK, that resulted in a goal. He also had more TOI than any other player. But, overall, I am very comfortable with how he has handled the puck in his own end these past two games.

- NHL.com and every other sports site has this as Seto's goal. You can hear it tip off his stick and Kane points to him and skates over.

Negatives:
-Postma is as Postma does. Looks scared as all hell everytime he touches the puck in his own zone. Really hope we can get something for him, but the more he plays the less value he has IMO, especially without getting some PP time on tape for teams to look at.

-Pavelec, too many rebounds, too many free pucks in the crease. Needs to get on those sooner. One chance turns into three chances far too often, if he's going to be the average goalie we need to get to the playoffs he needs to be better, or we need to score 4-5 goals a game to win.

-Wheeler! What's with the back passes when you're clear in one on one with the goalie! Slow start for him offensively.

Positives:

-KSS is our top line. Qualitatively it feels like they are getting more PP time than LLW. Kane is actually useful on the PP with linemates.

-Frolik and Jokinen are a solid duo, buzzing in LA's end with both Kane and Tangradi on LW. Tangradi is dangerous around the net. I think he might be able to post 25-30 points...mostly assists:D

-Trouba and Bogosian are a great pair in all phases. Wonder if they'll stick on the PP together when Clitsome is ready.

what to say ..............Hmmmmmmm............

Just got back ..... just read post game thread.......this would come a little later but I did not want to wait in line to get into the shark club......

Thoughts................

1) Kane was the best player on the ice ........ right from his first shift he had 2 great hits........... he followed with lots of speed, .... lots of presure, lots of chemistry with Scief and Gucci......

2 Little had a strong game............ Ladd played okay ....... not up to last years standards........ Wheeler played great..........except he had a half dozen brain farts......he was in a position to be the man and he over passed or f... uped.........
either way ....I think Wheeler is just working out the kinks and will either lead the team in scoring or be 2nd to Kane in scoring.......

3)3 #rd line was dangerous and agressive ..... lots of speed and I think if Tangradi can bring this type of game every night he will be a regular......

4) Pavs had a great game 18 saves in the 1st period.... and strong down the ending of the 3 rd

5 Was most impressed with Big Buff as he swatted those Kings back

6) Trouba showed some Rookie mistakes but he recovered well....when he did. Over all Wow cant wait to watch him for the next 10 years in the Peg.........

7 ENSTROM played a strong game......when u do not notice him most of the night and he ends up with 1-2 points thats a good thihg....
8) Bogo....I was a big Bogo booster b4 his contract and I wanted 2 sign him 2...a 8yr deal fo 44 mill........the Jes signed him to a 7 year 36 mill deal........from what I have seen this year so far.......... I think he is struggling to find his game........but even a 75% Bogo is better than most Nhl D-MEN

9) The guy sitting to the right of my season tickets is a Bump on the log... get a life or at least learn to smile when the Jets score,......

10) MTS centre was rockin.....great atmosphere andcrowd reaction to a good WPG JET team effort:handclap::yo::nod:

Jokinen's revenge... he is STILL the centre on WInnipeg's #2 line :naughty: Now if we could only get LLW back on track. BTW, Jokinen is tied with Bogosian+Kane+Trouba for highest +/- at +3.

wanted to add...... We had a power play ..... 2nd line went out and schief won the draw....... I cheered at that point because Schief was having a hard time at the dot and that was an important draw........ KANE SCORED THREE seconds latter .......way togo Schief..........

It's crazy how much chemistry the new guys have developed.

Setoguchi and Kane are making magic happen. Scheifele looks like the weak link on that line right now but he is still just a rookie. I'm sure he'll get better as the season goes. I really want to see Setoguchi re-signed.

Frolik and Tangradi are playing like men possessed. Where was this Tangradi last year? This is the player he looked like he had the potential of becoming when he was drafted. Jokinen also seems to have far more chemistry with them than he did with Kane and looks rejuvenated.

Overall, this team looks totally different with the additions of Setoguchi, Scheifele, Frolik and Trouba, and with existing players like Kane, Jokinen and Tangradi clicking more with their new linemates than they did last year. When LLW gets going, look out.

Weak spots for me:
-Wheeler and Ladd off to slow starts
-Postma and Stuart are terrible together
-Thorburn does nothing. I wish Halischuk would get some games

He's on a PPG pace, but more importantly, he's been doing the right things away from the puck. Proper support for his defensemen in the d-zone, good puck support in the o-zone, head on a swivel looking for his linemates when he has the puck, keeping up with Gooch and Kane to cause havoc on rushes, etc.

I will agree that he's not lighting it up like Gooch and Kane, but he's helping make that line better, I'd argue. As you state, he should get better with time, which really bodes well for that second line.

I'm really liking Olli's line, and his play in general on the third. The less flashy, slower play of that line really seems to suit the state of his game right now. Gooch and Scheifele are fast enough and flashy enough to hang with Kane, while Olli seems to fit with Frolik and Tangradi. For the Jets, this is the best possible outcome - a three line team will be very difficult to defend against.

Overall, outside of a few gaffes and a slightly weak first period, I like what that game showed us: the Jets are big and fast enough to hang in the Western conference. Long way to go, but great start.

Edit: nice little quote from Gooch in an nhl.com article:

"It's not just us two," Setoguchi said of himself and Kane. "[Center Mark Scheifele] is in the middle of it. But there is still a lot of room for improvement. It's going to be nice to get familiar with each other."

Jokinen's best game as a Jet.

Being able to roll three lines that can score makes such a difference in the approach to the game.

Postma was better, but he and Stuart are just not good enough.

We have a power-play? When did this happen?

Pavelec was outstanding at times, but oh, those juicy rebounds are going to come back and haunt him if he doesn't start getting better control.

What impressed me the most was that the team, and Pavs, didn't just give up after the Kings scored the third goal. Last year that would've ended as a loss, maybe even in regulation time.

Watched most of last night's game. All I can say is you guys have a fantastic blue line, and as long as they and your goaltender can keep pucks out of your own net effectively, you guys are going to be an absolute mother****** to play all season. I think the Jets make the playoffs this year and make some noise when they do. Good luck moving forward.

Oh yeah... Trouba? I'm beyond envious.
