So I've heard this is a thing with him in that he didn't face the Pens last year and would be "injured" or whatever for those games.

Now it's vs Ottawa...

So it's either he's injury prone or we won't be able to use him in any playoff series against his former team.

Both scenarios aren't good.

Whatever, I had more faith in Samsonov to be honest. Just needed to stay in the net and not be moving so much in the net like a younger MAF.
If out biggest fear is playing Ottawa in the playoffs than plan the parade, they won't be in it.

He acquired him and got less for it than the Buffalo Sabres were offered to take on the cap dump.

There is absolutely no way to validate the accuracy of the second part of this statement. IF we take it at face value that Buffalo actually was getting the rumoured pick we have no idea what they might have been giving to Ottawa to balance out value.

Added wrinkle in all this - the Leafs are at 50 contract slots, meaning they won't be able to sign another goalie / upgrade Ferguson's AHL PTO without shipping someone out

What a disaster if Samsonov goes down
It would be a disaster for any team if their top 4 goalies were all injured. That said, this is probably why you don't rely on someone unreliable like Murray

Objectively speaking, if we paid to get rid of Mrazek and then went and traded for a more expensive (cap) Mrazek, love him or hate him the Dubas era is over. It would be the grand finale for Dubas' goalie history here.

For Dubas' sake, because my own sake is tied to Dubas' sake, I want a cup this year, I really hope this is just an early season, cold muscles issue.

Hopefully Murray is okay but yeah not a good start.
I will say though if Murray is out some time, would they bring in Hildeby? Signed to an ELC so it could work. Didn't think about it but Alter just brought it up as an option. It would be fascinating. Only thing as Alter mentions is maybe a transfer agreement with Sweden being a problem, but they wouldn't stand in the way of Hildeby making the NHL?

Hope it’s minor, otherwise this is not what anybody needed in his 2nd game of the season. I’m sure there are lots of posters licking their chops.

Samsonov looks like a good insurance signing if he can carry the load through this injury. On another note, it’s not guaranteed Murray doesn’t back up if it’s minor. Who else is available if he can’t? Wtf.

Definitely isn't great. Always a solid chance the guy got hurt. But would have hoped he'd make it past more than starting 1 game before getting injured. And now they are in a spot. Frankly should have made a trade anyways to get under the 50 contract limit since guys were definitely going to get hurt.

Will hope it isn't major. But congrats to Samsonov...made it through a single game so he's basically the starter now.

I really don’t get it, he traded Mrazek because he was injury prone and played terribly but then went out and got basically the same player with a more expensive cap? Just why…

(Yeah, yeah I know he won Cups with Pittsburgh but it was obvious he isn’t the same player he was).

The 50 contract limit is an easily solvable problem. It’s not hard to trade out a prospect that the team has lost faith in for next to no return.
Someone like Joey Anderson. If the team doesn’t see a future in him another team will take a flyer on him for future considerations.

Samsonov

Too early to tell. But yeah. Kallgren apparently is also out.

My biggest takeaway from that play is WHY in the world was Douglas not a heat seeking missle on that play to the guy who took out his goalie.

Anyone should grab that guy but a 6'7" guy better do it.

Guys don’t panick, this happened last year on a Saturday night vs Ottawa during the first week of the season;

Saves the author a lot of time. Just needs to swap out Campbell for Samsonov.

Dubas is nothing but consistent.

We are an injury or 2 away from having to have a public open tryout for the goalie position. Some of you might have to dust off the pads. This is your chance to be the Leafs new #1 goalie.
