Is Messi not average on penalties for a player of his caliber? Neymar may be the best penalty taker ever. Why wouldn’t he take them?

Messi has made 102/131 penalties in his career for a 77.86% conversion rate

Neymar has made 63/77 penalties in his career for a 81.82% conversion rate.
Yes, he's uncommonly good at them for a world class player. Look it up if you don't believe me. He might be the best ever on penalties, at least from a subjective assessment. There's probably some guy in Malaysia with a 100% record that'll claim the best % rate, but Neymar is probably the best of the guys considered world class of the last few generations at least.
Ronaldo has made 141/169 penalties in his career for a 83.43% conversion rate.

Salah is 23/27 (85.19%). Ibra is 84/100.

Neymar is the best penalty taker ever? What in the world lol.
To be honest, he's top 3 with Fabinho and Jorginho.
But that doesn't mean Messi and Mbappe shouldn't take some.
Mbappe clearly has doubts since his NT failure last Euro. You can see it on his face.
That said, he was supposed to be the shooter and gave it to Messi. It was fair he took the last one especially since he made all 3 goals.

Thing is Neymar changed his penalties a few years back. Since then I think I've seen him miss 1 or 2. It's fair to say he's top 3.
His stats from before aren't reflective of his penalty dominance the last few years.

Along with Fabinho, I take Salah and James Milner taking a PK with my life on the line over Jorginho on Liverpool alone. Not to bring anyone else up

Icardi's penalty rate conversation is as good as Neymar's by the way. And Mbappe's is better than Messi's, surprisingly enough. But the difference between all four is minimal 3-4 percentage points, so the one who feel the most confident should probably take them.

Again, Neymar's penalsty stats have to be taken cautiously. He changed his penalty style a few years ago and has been absolutely crazy good since.

I think Fabinho has missed one single penalty in an official game in his career : at Dortmund in the CL QF.

Fabinho's certainly good at them.

But, I think there's a lot to be said about feeding your main man. Especially since Salah has been pretty good (only really missing 1 in the past year or so that he's been taking them). So, I wouldn't rock the boat with it. It clearly means a lot to Salah to score goals, and he's quite good, so, you go that route.

I don't think putting someone who could care less if they score goals up there does much for your top player's psyche. Sure, you want the goal at the end of the day, but if you can get the job done and get the mentality boosted, it's a win win.

THE Mark Noble is 38/43 (88.37%).

Hate that he missed that last one. They'll need to get him another before his last season is out.

I will be quite happy to get the Atletico portion of the schedule over for a while. Liverpool really don't match up well with them, and I think, whether anyone is willing to admit it or not, Simeone and his squad get under Klopp and Liverpool's skin. They unnerve him probably more than anyone else. While I think there's a healthy respect for the danger Atletico presents, I think Klopp just dislikes them so much that it bugs him and that seems to have filtered down into the players.

There is some truth to this - in the last two years he is 17/19 (89.47%). Which is god m good but hardly best of the last couple generations

Just further proof that Max Kruse and his 97% conversion rate are the GOAT, having missed just once in his entire career.

It’s not even the best of the last couple years given that Bruno is something like 22/24 since joining United and I doubt he’s #1 for that volume over that time. Not to mention that being mediocre for years, then changing and being really good for a couple years doesn’t make you the best of a generation.

It’s impressive how some people completely lack reading comprehension. And that’s directed at all of you, to be clear.

I was pretty clear that I was not making this into a career conversion rate contest. A player like Kruse is nowhere near world class. It’s debatable whether Bruno is. Was Le Tissier? Either way, he hasn’t played top level football since 2002. He’s multiple generations removed from the current one.

This might be the most absurd post you have ever made, despite the steep competition for that title.

Maybe Ajax should join the Budesliga, so Bayern could have some real competition :)
You mean Ajax have some real competition :)

In all honesty it appears they have a real up set (again) in them. They will take the top spot in the group and I wouldnt want to face them at all.
