I really wanted Miller as part of this trade... don't see anyone else that moves the needle - aside from Kovacevic of course haha

Kovy is not the defensive player Miller is but he would come cheap I'm pretty sure. He would upgrade our D depth with a RHS option. And he is signed for another year at a very low amount.

This is a pretty silly take. Of course adding good players without losing any roster players is going to make a difference. How couldn't it?

Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not.
The new player needs to adapt quickly to his new team and he needs to be a fit. There are many examples of rental players disappointing their new teams.

Monahan probably texted Toffoli... "don't worry, it's not THAT bad here" lol

If nothing else, these vet guys will get a kick out of the playoff atmosphere here. It really is an amazing place to hopefully go on a cup run in

Very excited that the Jets were able to acquire him without parting with a 1st rounder. Hopefully he has an immediate impact like Monohan. Are the Jets able to send Perfetti to the AHL?

I think Canadian born/raised players are also more open to playing in Canadian markets as well... boys are in for a treat this spring at the White Out.

On paper I'm not sure if I love or hate the idea of pushing the team to think defense first, second and third, and then as the trade deadline looms acquire players who have historically been focused almost exclusively on offense. Someone said it earlier, but based on shipping out 4 early round picks, it seems the focus is to win now while Hellebuyck is in his prime.

In principle, I so much agree with this. I have been preaching that gospel here for years. But - for Jets this year is unusual. The team has real potential to contend. Top 4 in the league goalie, true #1C, true #1 D, good depth and a coach who might be able to get them playing as an effective unit. Couple that with the strong group of prospects and this is the year to try to match the competition with rental upgrades.

Some of the TDL rentals do end up fitting and make a difference. You never know which ones until the games are played. Avs had a big hole at 2C. If Mitts adapts to the new team quickly that will be a difference maker for them. Whether he will or not remains to be seen.

IF Mony and Toffoli can help us get by Avs then they are worth the cost. That too remains to be seen.
NHL truly is a weird league. They have established a good, reliable system of playing 82 games to determine who the best teams are. Yet somehow, people are totally convinced that it's the RNG lottery ball simulator raffle after those 82 games that matters.

With or without Monahan and Toffoli, we're one Hellebuyck slump away from going back to the drawing board without a 2C, with a shoddy right side of the defense, and some key extensions looming ahead. That's hardly a sign of an unusual team. I don't think there are any, to be honest.

Remember those rumors a couple of days ago its going to cost a lot to get Toffoli?
Were they asking for 2 firsts and the best they could get for him is a 2nd & 3rd with 50% retain  ... I love it.
I think Chevy is still going to make another move for a big tough D man.
