Player Discussion Tyler Seguin

You guys need to calm down about Seguin.

David Krejci here has done nothing other than point out the fact that Seguin wasn't as big a factor in this series as he should have been compared to the regular season. For various reasons, he's correct in his assumption and we cannot harp on Seguin for being a kid with more playoff games (and Cups) than most NHL players ever see.

You get this team some depth, some relief for the big guns and we see Seguin maybe step up.

I'd only be worried since he did the same thing in Boston even with a demotion away from top tier defense.

Absurd, I swear, guys.

Seguin doesn't suck. He went from top 5 NHL scoring to just an average player in the playoffs, which there can be many reasons, most of which are a knock against him, but you know what?

He's a kid, he has many more years in the NHL to play, and we shouldn't ride him into the boards because he was off in his first playoff series as a Dallas Star on a team that by all accounts blew a tire and pulled a Dale Earnhardt. Same reason why we can't knock Nichushkin for being exhausted for half the year and looking like he's a floater.

David, I suggest you peace out and take a vacation from trying to point out Seguin's faults.

Soooo...

Apparently I'm blind, but I did distinctly smell Seguin play worse than he did in the regular season. On the power-play he did seemingly nothing aside from shoot the puck. Which is fine normally, except he usually missed the net. Any time he passed it away it was because he didn't have a shooting lane, but it was always a safe pass to the defenseman with the intention of getting it back again so he could shoot. I don't think I smelled him even attempt to make a pass to set up a scoring chance for someone else. Shooting on the PP is great. It's something the team has been lacking in the past, but when it's that predictable, and that inaccurate, it's a recipe for a terrible power-play.

At even strength he was more effective, but the Ducks played him physically and it shut him down. When he had room to skate he did some good things, but he was mostly a non-factor all series. It smelled like a one man line.

Having said that, he's young. I've always thought of him as incredibly similar to Yzerman, who also had trouble getting it going in the postseason early in his career. He just has to get stronger and learn to pay the price. There's no doubt in my mind that he'll get there, but this series was simply not a good enough performance from him.

@David Kraychee
Count me in on the **** off bandwagon. With that avatar and that user title you're preaching to fans of a team that just got eliminated. I also do not care a single bit about your opinion, and would like to discuss Seguin with people who have been watching him all season.

Hairy gets it. He's smarter than the average bear.

I appreciate your level headed objectivity, I really do. I'm going to take my discussion back to the thread on the main board, strangely enough there's more objectivity on there than there is in here, aside from a select few. There's too much sensitivity here to have a rational discussion other than with the select few I mentioned. Maybe it's because the ending to the series is so raw, I don't think so, but whatever.

Have a nice summer everyone, I will see you on the Bruins board if we don't win the Cup, I will be right there with you tearing them to pieces. Also I will be back here next spring to revisit this, and if Seguin tears it up in the playoffs next year, like you AND I would like to see him do, I look forward to giving him the credit he deserves. See ya.

Agreeing with your ideas =/= objectivity

Generally, objectivity means the state or quality of being true even outside of a subject's individual biases, interpretations, feelings, and imaginings.~wiki

It's a state of being levelheaded. I'm level headed about the fact that Seguin neither cost us nor won us this series and has faults as a player, which are magnified as the dynamics of the game change from the long 82 game grind to a short high energy playoff series.

Humans can understand objectivity. So calm the down and take a minute to actually think about why these things are being said and if evidence has been sufficiently presented beyond box score watching.

Believe me, I watched the games. Anaheim did a fantastic job of ensuring Seguin never had a legit opportunity to contribute what he is capable of.

Yeah you are really objective and rational when you insult most off HfStars before going off. I know you like to think yourself as a smart guy (don't deny that, I is obvious that you think you are at a higher level than anybody else), you probably is, but honestly you have come across like an *******. You come off as extremely arrogant, maybe it wasn't how you thought you came across but there is a reason why people responded so negatively to your posts.

I don't have a problem with talking about Seguin not playing as well in this one playoff series as he did all season long. My problem is with an outsider drudging it up mere moments after it happened.

Sports aren't all that much about rational level-headedness. If we're rational about the whole thing we would realize that sports are stupid, matter nothing at all in the big scheme of things, and are a drain of our energy and financial resources. A person wanting to have a rational discussion minutes after a team's fans experience a monumental letdown like we did last night is asinine and bordering on disingenuous.

Insulting us for not appreciating your efforts is about par for the course.

Right now you're like the uncle at family events who wants to constantly bring up politics/abortion/religion gun rights, etc. No one wants to talk to you because everyone knows you have an agenda you're trying to push. When people refuse to talk to you about it and ask you to stop, you get offended and say "you're just trying to have a discussion."

Please don't return next spring to revisit this. You have done nothing but go out of your way to insult people here in every one of your posts. We could do without your passive aggressive posting, textbook long posts, and clear agenda.

Hey ... I like long posts. Now I'm offended.

tl ; dr

Suck it Kari for last night, and insulting long posts.

:sarcasm:

P.S. Isn't the best way to chase off a troll just ignoring him? You guys are adding gasoline to the fire.

For the PP, he assisted on the sweet Cody Eakin goal from the slot. He also deferred shooting to pass to Benn on several occasions where I thought he should have shot. I thought he looked gun shy as the game/series went on. He did miss the net a lot.

At even strength I thought he skated well and made room for others and cycled better than expected, but didn't show his usual risk/reward play.

I would say he looks playoff snake bit. Just pressing and in his head. If he gets one or two to go in he will explode. Scoring is streaky and confidence driven and confidence is all mental.

Exactly, I could give two ***** if he is correct or wrong in his thinking. People skills 101, Krejci doesn't have it.

Seguin just posted a picture of him and three girls on his instagram with the description "Dallas sucks..."
