I have a half-baked theory that when I am feeling somewhat secure and comfortable with my life, when my daily life feels calm and predictable, then I like shows that make me work, shows that are a little challenging.

But if I feel insecure with work, or money, or personal stuff, I cling to the familiar and formulaic . I will watch Superstore, New Girl, The Office , Cheers… it just works for me. I suspect I’m not alone.
"You'll Never Walk Alone." ✌️🕶️

Try finding 'Bored to Death' staring Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis. Another one of them funniest shows that nobody has heard of. :)

Loudermilk is also very good. Smart comedy.
That's a terrible name though.

It does make sense TBQH.

While I consider myself a well-educated individual, there's something comforting about generic sitcoms. A few years ago when I was still in grad school reading a bunch of theoretical jargon every day, I'd come home and sometimes just watch whatever type of sitcom ABC had on like the Goldbergs because I don't have to think at all.

Producers don't realize that not every form of entertainment needs to have lore. I don't need to have to know that Lord Gargarion acquired a dragon ring from Wintershire before marrying Lady Gorfdor whose brother-in-law was killed by an elf sent by Ser Darfley Borpadorp in retaliation for stealing the Golden Armor from Castle Farbarf every time I want to watch TV at the end of the day.

Seriously though, GoT was great in its heyday but it's kind of ruined TV ever since because everyone wants to copy it and put some lore-heavy fantasy series on the air and make it a thing.

I think it's why millenials and Gen Z just watch the Office over and over again, because it's almost too much effort to start a new series.

I know it's been talked about but just finished the Bear season 2 and I'm pretty much ready to put that show in my all time top five. The Fishes episode is one of the most intense viewing experiences I've had in a long time and Jamie Lee Curtis is a goddamn master. But everybody in the show is so good and their character arches are largely pretty satisfying. I love the way at the beginning of the season Richie was losing his shit because he didn't know what his role was and was afraid of being dropped. And then at the end of the season when he steps in when all hell is breaking loose...so so so good. I feel like we all deserve a Richie in our lives.

I've been trying to tell people its S-tier television.

"Fishes" and then following it up with "Forks" was masterful. Back to back bangers

I watch very little fictional tv these days. Hollywood seems to have lost its ability to create original programming. I'm not talking about cable or streaming services, from what I've read here there is some good stuff out there. I'm talking about network tv and the movies, where it seems all you can watch are re-boots of old shows, re-makes of old movies and blockbuster series like Spider Man, etc.

I keep coming back to that lyric of Nirvana's "Smell Like Teen Spirit"- "...here we are now, entertain us". This generation of Hollywood doesn't know how to create entertainment, it only knows how to consume it.

Just my .02

Yeah I mean we just went through the most prolific time for new content - and lots and lots of high quality shows and series across most genres. It’s just not in the medium you were used to. Golden Age really. Now it’s all coming to a halt.

You heard right - 13 years after Season 2 aired Starz brought it back a few months ago for Season 3. The new season showed just how much ( or how little ) things had changed for all the characters. The show is especially funny for anybody that has ever worked in the hospitality field. Give it a try - you will really enjoy this show. :thumbu:

Party Down is hilarious. So odd that they cancelled it and then brought it back after so long. But I have zero complaints because it's hilarious.

Gonna start deadwood tonight, may as well given I’m in my late 40’s and it’s a title that feels metaphorical especially after a few whiskies
One of my all time favorites. If you like it, keep in mind that quite a lot of the cast and crew ended up making Justified afterwards and that was excellent as well. It also happens to be rebooting starting tomorrow with Justified: City Primeval
