I am too young to remember the TV movie era of television but I do know that it was a thing which got people their big break (ie Jodie Foster).

So I have to ask those here who have been around before me: Were TV movies any good? If so, are there any you would recommend to try and look for?

It’s hard for me to remember any TV Movies that really stood out, however there were a few mini-series released on network TV that I’d definitely recommend:

Roots
Holocaust
Lonesome Dove (one of my top 10 favorite books)
Once an Eagle (also one of my top 10 favorite books)
Winds of War/War and Rememberance

I'm sure this has been talked about but just finished True Detective season 1 last night. Felt like a perfect season of TV. Just incredible. I've heard season 2 is bad and then 3 gets better, not sure if I'm gonna invest the time going forward.
I didn`t mind season 2 , season 1 with WH and MM was terrific, looking forward to the Jodie Foster season coming soon

Skip season 2. It may be the worst 10 episodes of television since the Kroffts put out Far Out Space Nuts. It's that bad.

Season 3 is good. Not season 1 good, but it's far better than most of the crap out there.

movies :

Salem’s Lot
Trilogy of Terror

If that is the one with Karen Black, it terrified me

Karen Black actually stars in all 3 stories. The best ( and scariest ) story is the last one.

Salem's Lot is a great choice too - even though it's a " made for TV film " it's a really good horror film. :thumbu:

I actually like that version of Salem's Lot better than The Shining. Kubrick's vision is just too far from the book, making Jack the evil and not the hotel itself. The David Soul Salem's is very close to the book (and the book terrified me as a kid, I slept with a crucifix under my pillow for months).

I just found out that they remade Salem's Lot in 2004 with Rob Lowe as the lead. :amazed:

I am not a fan of remakes as they generally suck or are at least not as good as the original. Anybody here see the Lowe version ????

there is a new one coming out next year. The Bride and I were up in Ipswich last fall and got stuck in street shutdown while they filmed ‘vampires’ chasing townsfolk through the town square . They turned the area into “Jerusalem Lot.”

or maybe not.

Two was disjointed, but there were a few standout performances. It simply wasn't as good as the first season, so it was doomed to start. Season three was very good though. But it was a couple of years removed from season one and only had to be better than season 2 for people to say it was good.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away,

The Night Stalker, (1972)

The Night Strangler, (1973)

RKO 281,

The Rat Pack,

We used to joke about this one in the second grade,

The whole eighth floor at Emerson's Charlesgate East dorm watched this one in 1983, as the entire country did,

Currently playing in a men’s Senior Baseball tournament in South Florida. Had our first game at the Cardinals’ spring training stadium today.

Lost 7-2 to a team from Venezuela. Our best pitcher popped his shoulder in the 1st, and we gave up 4 in the 2nd. I pitched the 3rd-7th. Gave up 2 runs in 5 innings, but the bats weren’t there. Really happy with how I pitched but ran out of gas. It was 86 and that sun was cooking.

I’m like a kid again, this week.

I haven’t seen this show but it sounds good
