Just got the Messier book for Christmas and at 100 pages in it is just fair so far . Not nearly as interesting as the Avery book . Back on topic....we watched the movie The Finest Hours last night ....I'd give it a 6 .

Thanks, I watched was pretty good. I recently watched the puppet master. About a con artist. Was shorter than I'd like and more boring than I expected. Still worth the watch.
That's on my list. Watching The Devil Next Door next.

Started watching Peaky Blinders ...finished season one . I like it so far . They certainly did a lot of drinking back then LOL Also watching Blacklist but after a season and a half it is kind of out there and a bit unbelievable but we will use it as a filler until some other stuff is resumed and or the snow is gone in about 8 -10 weeks and the golf clubs come out .

I can’t deny that Frodo ended up being the lamest character in all of the movies lol. I don’t really mean the casting itself, I mean bringing the overall aesthetic towards something…less ridiculous.

I was hardcore into The Silmarillion, some of the artwork was cool but people always imagine fantasy novels as so damn hokey.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo maybe I feel I could rival Steven Colbert in his knowledge of Tolkien's world. I've been obsessed with Tolkien since I was a little kid! I am cautiously excited for this because I know The Silmarillion SO well. The upshot of all of this is that The Silmarillion is bloody and gritty, and should make for an amazing show if they do it right. I just wish there were starting from the very beginning.

It's funny, for all the changes in the movies, I still love them. Even Frodo (who I agree they did make a bit cringe in the movies). The Hobbit movies on the other hand are literal hot garbage.

I’m relatively obsessed with Tolkien myself, and generally agree with this entire assessment, but I would say that my wife and I still thoroughly enjoy The Hobbit trilogy even if they’re not particularly good, faithful adaptations and much more popcorn film than serious drama like the original trilogy. Though I’ve always felt similarly about the source material - The Hobbit may be my favorite of the books but it’s also a lighter, more whimsical tale. The movies, while certainly not my favorites are also more whimsical and fun, they’re just bastardizing the source writing in order to crap out three movie$. Which is a shame, but doesn’t stop us from enjoying them all the same.

I really am excited for The Rings of Power. Don't get me wrong. I just hope they don't try to Game of Thrones it TOO hard. Just bring that world to life, that's all I ask.

I enjoyed the LOTR films for sure and, honestly, I'm not quite certain how much better they could have been given the depth of the books.

The Hobbit was obviously drawn out for maximum $, but I still like spending another 10, or whatever, hours in Middle Earth. It really didn't bother me.

The Silmarillion was read so long ago by me that I really don't remember much of anything. I do remember, however, reading it and feeling it was more an encyclopedia than a compelling novel but I was pretty young so take that with a grain of salt.

Looking forward to all things Middle Earth, again.

I am, however, still in mourning over The Expanse ending. I really hope it gets picked up again. I'm still kinda shocked they did it dirty the way they did considering it was picked up by Prime at the behest of Bezos, who is a massive fan of the books.

I LOVE The Exanse. If I had to make a bet I'd say there will more to come. Just too much left open where the story can / should go.

Speaking of sci-fi, who watched / is watching HBO MAX's Raised by Wolves? I'm in the middle of Season 1 and it looked very good so far as the story is backstory is being build up.
