Dune is going to beat me over the head with pure awesomeness, and I cannot wait.

10/22/2021
After the tidal wave of incredibly disappointing remakes and whatnot from the entertainment business (games, movies, you name it), I expect it to be terrible. Anything better than that will be a positive surprise for me.

I thought the mini series was pretty decent, actually.

Also, remaking the original film would have to work pretty hard to be worse. I mean, that film was a cluster you know what.

Netflix documentary:

Just wow, what a documentary. I cannot believe this is stuff that actually happened. They got Mike Rupp on their team? I'm currently watching episode 2 with the infamous 2004 brawl in the NBA.

Yes, I also like that mini series from 2001-2002 or so, right? It wasn't brilliant, but I liked it.

While I agree with your assessment of the industry's previous efforts, I've had the feeling from the beginning that Dune will be the exception.

All I know is Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa have kind of a thing going.

I hope you are correct of course.

Otherwise these are the series I rank very high:
South Korean production: Arthdal Chronicles - a splendid low fantasy series with struggle, never giving up and very low key magic. I love it.
Kingdom: Mixing a medieval setting with zombies? Yes please.

NA production: Mindhunter - the build up of the psychological unit at the very stale FBI in the 70s? Yes please.
Queen's Gambit - Even if you're not interested in chess it's still a great show. I happen to be a decent chess player so I loved it even more.
The Witcher - It could've been better but it was still a good show.

European production: Peaky Blinders - Great gangster series. Not all seasons are great, but it holds it together.
Bron - Criminal drama very good up until the 4th season.

Animated: The Dragon Prince - I was initially very sceptical, but it was very well made. At the first episode I was VERY sceptical, at the end I absolutely loved it.
DOTA Dragon's Blood - Just splendid. I especially loved the characterization of the dragons.
Full Metal Alchemist - A great, great series with high magic in a dystopian, fascist world. The story and the characters makes me totally forgive the stuff I hate about Japanese anime (emotional exaggeration).

South America: I can just say "City of Gods" (crime in Brazil) and "Tropa de elite" 1&2 (ruthless military police in Brazil) are great movies.

That's it for now. And oh, I liked the Marvel series "Loki".

Midnight Mass on Netflix has been really good. It's well written, solid cast with a dark religious undertone. Perfect series for October heading into Halloween!

If you can get past believing what mankind can do without sight, See is actually a pretty good show.

High concept, for sure. Don't have Apple TV, unfortunately, but I was also referring to their collaboration on an upcoming Lethal Weapon-style buddy cop movie.

I started Peaky -- great show.
I found Loki disappointing.
Best Brazilian crime show I've seen -- Merciless.

The episode about the tennis player Mardy Fish was also quite good (watched it last night).

I’d definitely agree with you, but director Denis Villeneuve has already passed this test (with flying colors IMO) with Blade Runner 2049. His filmography has a whole is pretty nuts. My bet is you’ll be positively surprised. To be fair, though, I’ve never actually read Dune, so for people who have read the books—especially fans—may have an entirely different experience from myself. I’m familiar with the basic (emphasis on “basic”) story from watching Lynch’s Dune several times, for purposes of surreal masochism.

Eric R. Roth (screenwriter) who won the 1995 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Forrest Gump.

Joe Walker (film editor): nominated for a mass of Best-Film-Editing-Awards for Hunger (2008), Shame (2011), 12 Years A Slave (2013), Sicario (2015), Arrival (2016) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017).

Hans Zimmer (film score composer): is Hans Zimmer (who invented new instruments just for Dune).

This is the cast: Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

All of the untold episodes were great, I only didn't watch the one about Caitlyn Jenner and have no interest in watching it.

I watched Lynch's a few times, hoping against hope each time that I wasn't as bad as I remembered -- I was wrong: it got worse each time I saw it. (Books were incredible.)

Dune is similar to Lord of the Rings in that no matter how long the movies are they will never cover the material in the books and, as good as this Dune movie might be, it won't be as in depth as the books are.

That being said, I thought the Lord of the Rings movies were fantastic and exceeded all expectations. Hopefully Dune does the same.
